however now i double click on the dvd ram icon on the my computer page,and i get a message D:/ is not accesible,the request could not be performed because of an I/O device Error,please advice

you have a disc in the drive right? check the event viewer of windows

even with or without a cd or dvd rom,its still dont play or even bring out sound,all i get is a message D:/ is not accesible,the request could not be performed because of an I/O device Error,please advice

usually poor media or a drive fault, check all cables, try unistalling the drive in device manager and all ata/atapi controllers

Either you drive or the ide cable could be damaged.
No firmware update can solve that.

well do i change the entire dvd tray or just get a new lens or what do advice,am sorry for the double post,i got into the wrong windows,pls review the lock thread,thanks

If you won't buy an replacement drive (or get one by RMA from the seller), you could buy and connect an external burner via Firewire or USB.

ok,i will just go out and shop for an external dvd ram with burner features,any other thing you thin k i should put into consideration?thanks for the help.
