I've put together FlashIt Kit packages for all of Apple's Pioneer OEM Superdrives (except the DVR-117)! These packages have been fully tested and will upgrade or downgrade either Apple branded Superdrives or Pioneer drives to Apple OEM drives. Both the original firmware and RPC1 (Region Free) versions of the firmware are in each package. BTW: I did not patch the RPC1 firmwares! They are the work of XVI, of course. :)

Please feel free to post these packages at other firmware sites. Just leave the packages intact with the ReadMe files.

Apple DVR-103 FlashIt Kit 2.0

Apple DVR-104 FlashIt Kit 2.0

Apple DVR-105 FlashIt Kit 2.0

Apple DVR-106 FlashIt Kit 2.0

Apple DVR-107 FlashIt Kit 2.0

Could anyone help me out here?

Just downloaded the flash kit for my superdrive, but in the "Apple OEM 104 - RPC1 Folder" both files end in .120

In Las Vegas' script, this produces the following error message:

Drive: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104
Current Firmware: A227
Firmware To Be Installed: Apple OEM 104 - RPC1, Ver. 1.20

You will be installing both the Kernel and Firmware into this drive.

grep: Apple OEM 104 - RPC1/R4100003.098: No such file or directory

Do you wish to proceed? [y/n]

Could anyone please tell me which file to rename or what to do in order to get my drive region free...

Thank you :-)

Sorry... I messed up on this one. Just change the name of the file in the 'Apple OEM 104 Official' folder from R4100003.098 to R4100003.120. It will not effect the results, but gets around a bug in the script I'm working on...

BTW: I've corrected the copy online.

Wow, this has been a lot of fun. I've sifted and searched through so much information, but still confused about many things.

I was able to flash my Pioneer Apple OEM 106D drive in my Powermac G5 the other day. I've tried both the 1.07 and 1.08 version. I'm curious. 1.07 has one extra feature over 1.08, so why use 1.08?

After applying the firmware, I got that no ejecting problem if the drive is left in the computer too long problem, so I turned off the "Put hard drive to sleep when possible" feature in energy saver. This seems to have fixed the problem. If I were to upgrade to a Pioneer 108D and applied the firmware, would I still have to resort to the "Put hard drive to sleep" fix? Is this only am issue with the 106D?

Later, I found another firmware hack (this thread). I applied this firmware (X612) because I thought it was the latest and greatest. But as far as I can tell, the 12x ripping is missing? So why should I use this over 1.07?

Thank you all!

Hi folks -- am I glad I stumbled across this forum :)

SO, I have a Sawtooth and as soon as 10.3.4 (or was it 5??) came out supporting the DVR-107 natively, I grabbed one at a PC shop. I did not buy it from an Apple retailer.

Can I use this firmware version from LasVegas' heroic efforts on it?

http://homepage.mac.com/asaxton/Apple_1 ... it_2.0.zip

Thing is that, recently, the drive has been acting funky. Put a disk in and it spits it out (commercial DVD movie, game software on commercial DVD, even audio CDs sometimes). Or, the damned thing just stops working and wither through holding the eject button forever (probably does nothing) or using a paperclip I get the disk out. But it STILL doesn't work. Even after restarts or stone-cold boots. I have to confess that getting it back up again has become a bit of a blur. :?

Anyhoo, I'm wondering if the latest firmware would help and wanted to make sure this was the right firmware for a non-Apple "badged" 107. Or, would resetting the firmware do it? If so, how is that accomplished?

Here are other tidbits of info about it:

Mac OS X 10.3.6 (7R28)

ASP reveals:

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-107D:

Manufacturer: PIONEER
Model: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-107D
Revision: 1.10
Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW
Disc Burning: Apple Supported/Shipped
Removable Media: Yes
Detachable Drive: No
Protocol: ATAPI
Unit Number: 0
Socket Type: Internal
------------------------------------

drutil info in Terminal reveals:

Vendor Product Rev
PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-107D 1.10

Interconnect: ATAPI
SupportLevel: Apple Shipping
Cache: 2000k
CD-Write: -R, -RW, BUFE, CDText, Test, IndexPts, ISRC
DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, BUFE, Test
Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I thank you in advance :)

PS: Am I correct in recalling that 10.3.6 now natively supports the DVR108? no Patchburn required? iLife compatible when internal?

Your problem is not Firmware related. You need to clean the lens. You might try one of those cheap CD/DVD cleaning discs, but it sounds like your problem is beyond that. You can still manually clean the lens. I suggest using either pure isopropyl alcohol or commercial lens cleaner and lint-free swabs (NOT Q-Tips!). These are available at most professional camera or eyeglass stores. Be extremely careful when cleaning the internal lens. Apply as little pressure as you can muster. Too much and you'll through the lens out of alignment and destroy the drive.

No. The Pioneer 108 is not natively supported in 10.3.6 except in the Apple OEM (DVR-117) form. It is expected to be fully supported in Tiger (10.4).

Thank you for the reply, LasVegas :)

Clean the frickin' lens.

DUH.

SO, Is that v.2 firmware applicable to my PeeCee purchased 107?

As for the 108, is there a patch for it to make it mac compatible? Does Toast see it with the stock firmware? Thanks for any answers, of which you've probably answered a million times already.

Yes. The Apple 107 firmware will work on an official Pioneer drive to convert it to an Apple OEM drive. I don't really see any benefit in doing this since it will run slower and support fewer brands of media. Mac OS X 10.3.6 natively supports the official DVR-107A.

Thank you. I'll just leave my firmware as it is then.

I have yet to physically clean my DVDRW lens, but just whooshed some compressed air through there, just to see if it made a difference. IT DID! So, you're bang-on on the dust issue. I recently put a RAID in my Sawtooth and dust must have moved around into the DVDRW.

Little confused here. Downloaded the 106 Flashit Kit. Want to make my drive RPC-1. Do I leave both folders (RPC-1 and Official) in the Flashit Kit folder or do I remove one of them before I fun the Flashit command.

Thanks,
Clint

Leave them both in the folder. FlashIt will present you with a menu to select between them.

Greetings!

I DOWNLOADED the above "Apple DVR-107 FlashIt Kit 2.0"

I ran the "FlashIt.command"

It updated my PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-107D from 1.18 to Revision A707

I thought this was a 2.0 updater?

What is A707?

How do I get to 2.0?

-After this update I seem to be finally burining 8x TDK DVD-R at 8X (7minutes) whereas before I was around 13 minutes!-

Mac OS 10.3.7
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Model: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-107D
Revision: A707
Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW
Disc Burning: Apple Supported/Shipped
Removable Media: Yes
Detachable Drive: No

2.0 a firmware-revision for a Pioneer 107/A07? Never seen such one... Who told you that?
A707 seems to be an official APPLE firmware for the drive.

I know, but these number has nothing to do with the firmware revision. Or does it?!

The above "Apple DVR-107 FlashIt Kit 2.0"

Thanks for the help...believe me, it's a feat for my pea brain to find, download AND run these great flash kits that the computer scientists so graciously provide.

However, I am now more confused.
Are you saying the PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-107D does NOT have a 2.0 firmware revision - because the "FlashIt Kit 2.0" and other posts suggest otherwise???

I have a feeling I need to find and add some kind of file(s) to drop into above "Apple DVR-107 FlashIt Kit 2.0" to give its "FlashIt.command" a 2.0 option, but the forum.rpc1.org download page seems to have only EXE files for 2.0 (I'm on Mac 10.3x).

In fact, I don't have a clue how to proceed and will likely be stuck on A707 till someone does a FlashIt Kit with the actual 2.0 files enclosed.

Then the question becomes the difference between A707 and 2.0 on a Mac???

Hi,

After trying to get my DVR-103 to use 4x dvd media the drive has decided to no longer see CD's or DVD's.

As a last hope I used your Apple DVR-103 FlashIt kit 2.0 and ran the Apple Superdrive Update.

After reading further down this list, I also cleaned the lens.

If I insert a CD or DVD, the drive see's no media and spits the disk out after 1 min of searching (blank or CD album)

Is there anything else you can suggest or do you think the Drive is fried?

System Profiler and Toast both see the drive

OSX 10.3.7 .....G4 733 Digital Audio

ATA-3 Bus:

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-103:

Manufacturer: PIONEER
Model: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-103
Revision: 1.49
Serial Number:
Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW
Disc Burning: Apple Supported/Shipped
Removable Media: Yes
Detachable Drive: No
Protocol: ATAPI
Unit Number: 0
Socket Type: Internal

Thanks

There is not firmware 2.0 for the DVR-107 series of drives. The current official revision from Pioneer is version 1.18. The version for FlashIt and DVRFlash refer to the revision for the flashing utilities (both the script and the flasher). It is not related to the firmware version.

A707 is the most recent firmware for the Apple OEM version of the DVR-107D. Since this is the firmware that Apple's software expects, you may have better luck with it using Disk Utility, iTunes and iDVD. You can add a folder containing firmware revision 1.21 into the save FlashIt folder to add the option to the script's menu. You will need the kernel with the 1.21 firmware.

Haydnm; Your symptoms indicate that your laser is either very weak or dead. You would be best to replace the drive. A Pioneer 108/A08 series can be picked up many places for about $100... If you can find a 107/A07 series, it may be much less expensive.

I do not have OS 9 on my G4 Powerbook.....I downloaded the file from Pioneer for Mac for my Cyclone Revo (Pioneer 103) Superdrive.....I then placed the firmware folder into the Apple 103 Flash Kit.....I then opened the file and clicked Flashit......As I was prompted I did select B the official version.....the end reseult was a message advising the fimware and drive were different and could not complete.......is this because I had never installed the original firmware via OS 9????? Thanks, Gordon
