I've completely rewritten FlashIt for use with DVRFlash 2.0! It's now easier and smarter than ever!

Please take every precaution to verify everything before proceeding to flash your drive.

The proceedure for using the kit has changed slightly from previous versions. Instead of putting your Firmware files directly in the folder, put the folder containing the Firmware in the FlashIt Kit folder. You may use descriptive names for the folders to reflect the firmware in them. For instance:

Folder Name:

AMAZING!

I have been waiting as patiently as can be to get my hands on this and here it is. Going through the whole process of uninstalling my drive, putting it in a PC to flash it, and then reinstalling it was definitely a chore.

It feels good when mac kids get the same toys as the pc kids.

thanks dude!

In this case, you might say they get better tools ;) Nice work LasVegas!

Just remember that my patch is still EXPERIMENTAL.
It is NOT the final version yet => USE AT YOUR OWN RISKS!!!

Hi

Just tried to flash my DVR-108 with the official Pioneer firmware, but unfortyunately it has killed the drive...

Still appears in Apple System Profiler as v1.04 firmware, but it won't mount a disk and Flash-it 2 says that the drive has been "miss-flashed" and has to be redone on PC - is it telling the truth...?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I just flashed my DVR-108 with Gradius's 1.14 version but there is a strange point that Disk Utility no long list the capability of -DL on screen. Beside, I cannot read some region free DVD from Apple's DVD Player. Even I could play it again from VLC but I think Apple's is better one for me. Is there any chance I can flash back to original PIONEER 1.14 firmware? I remember that in August, I saw a link to PIONEER firmware that it has separate .114 file instead of .EXE file. Any help?

Thanks!
Damian

Download the newest (2.01) version. It now supports systems with multiple Pioneer drives.

Hey!

Glad to see it is finally official. (sorry this is late, I've been away..) I was lucky enough to test out the preliminary version, and it was quite a feat to hold my tongue and not post in this forum about how great it worked.

Thanks again LV, you did exceptionally well~!

As you have a DVR-117 (Apple/Pioneer OEM) which is a 108 variant, it probably is (IN PRINCIPLE) possible to flash it with standard 108 firmware. As of now, nobody has done it AFAIK. There may be obstacles to be moved away...
Your best bet now is just to wait and see. Once it's done successfuly, you will read about it in these forums.
Did you read this thread? http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=30534

Flashing the 117 to a 108 will remove (for now) Apple Installed/Supported feature. Also Apple seems to add certain commands to the drives command set exclusively for the G5. Changing firmware may cause the G5's cooling system to misbehave. I also suggest waiting until an update to Apple's firmware is available.

Have used the Flashit Kit 2 to try update of a DVR 108 from version 1.04 but am getting the following (below) from Terminal. Running 10.3.6 in a G4/400/AGP machine and have had no problems with the drive burning CD's but have not yet burned a DL DVD. Running Toast v6.0.3. Used Pachburn II and 3 and the drive is fully supported with iapps under Jaguar from a previous install. With Patchburn 3 and Panther was listed as "vendor supported" in ASPer.

Here is what I got in Terminal after running the Flashit script..

Commandline:
./DVRFlash -f PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-108 R8100008.114 R8100108.114

Partial MacOS X port of PLScsi: v1.1 by xvi.

Drive Information:
Description - PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-108
Firmware Rev. - 1.04
Firmware Date - 04/07/20
Manufacturer - PIONEER
Drive is in normal mode.

The PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-108 is not supported by this utility - Aborting

You are using a very old version of DVRFlash (1.1). You should download and use version 2.0 from the first message of this thread.

I've read some posts on the subject of DVR 108 (mine is the black version), Flashit, and DVR Flash.
I'm still not clear about what to do. I have a G4 Dual 1ghz Mirrored with 1.5 GB ram and OS 10.2.8

I have run Patchburn 1.1 and it completed the install. When I open it again, the 108 is listed, but it still says "no" under "driver" on the right side of the window. but the drive will read ok.

The 108 will read fine, but I couldn't burn from iDVD even after 2hrs. I'm using TDK 4x DVD-R. I burned a data DVD from Finder, but that was strange. It seemed to take almost no time, and there was some kind of error message. When I try to open it, the finder won't work properly and I have to relaunch finder. Get info says the dvd has 5 items and 3gb. Other data DVDs read fine.

I've read posts on Flashit and DVR flash from Oct. 15, but I'm not sure how to work it. The contents in both packages can't be opened, I just get the "choose application" message. I don't really have enough experience in updating firmware to proceed, so I'm hoping you can outline where I go from here.

Thanks!

:^o

I'm trying to update the following:

Device : A:
Vendor : PIONEER
Model : DVD-RW DVR-108
Revision : 1.04

With version 1.18 and the latest version of FlashIt Kit. When it comes time to do the update, it says the following:

Drive: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-108
Current Firmware: 1.04
Firmware To Be Installed: , Ver. 1.18

There is no Kernel present for this update.

This could cause problems if a newer Kernel is required.
Please verify this before proceeding.

What does this mean and where can I find the necessary Kernel?

-John

It means, go ahead and let the firmware update do it's job.

Mine said the same thing, and it updated to 1.18 just fine. Make sure nothing interrupts the process and you should be fine.

Some of Apple's G5 Towers are shippng with the DVR-108AA Pioneer which shows on the system profile as a DVR-117D, Revision B705.

I tried to update the firmware to make it into a "true" DVR-108 unit with patched firmware but I keep getting a firmware/drive type mismatch error.

EIther I am doing something wrong (which is quite possible) or it cannot be converted.

I would appreciate one of the DVD experts here telling me whether this conversion can be accomplised and if so provide specific instrucions including the precise format of the command line needed to do this.

I do not have a PC handy - only Macs.

There is a step by step procedure on how to flash you Apple OEM 108AA Pioneer drive, so that it becomes a standardized 108.

It's located at MacBidouille:

http://www.hardmac.com/article.php?id=44

Give it a try and see if this works for you.

There instructions indicate that DVRFlash for Mac doesn't work. I have sent the author an email with DVRFlash 2.0 and instructions as to how to use it on a Mac. You do not need to remove the drive from the Mac, but do note that it will void the waranty on your G5.

DVRFlash 2.0 can be downloaded here. The command to flash the drive with Pioneer's 108 firmware is:

> ./DVRFlash -f PIONEER R8100108.118 R8100008.118
