[code]Drive: Pioneer DVR-108 (Dual format 16x speed DVD+/-/DL Burner)
Also known as: DVR-108, DVR-108D, DVR-108B, DVR-A08, DVR-A08D, etc.
Firmware Rev.: v1.14

Patched: o RPC-1 (Region Free):
Remember, patching your drive to region free is only half
the job. A region free drive will not turn your system
region free by itself. For more info, please read
http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=239
o 12xRip (Unlimited ripping speed):
The official firmware from Pioneer limits the ripping
speed on video discs. This limitation has been removed.
12x is only the maximum THEORETICAL speed that the drive
can achieve, but not the sustained speed you are likely to
get when ripping. Most DVD's will start ripping around 2x
to 4x and end up around 8x or 10x. THIS is normal.
o nx4all : All speeds for -R/+R/+R9 media
This firmware allows you to select ALL burning speeds on
-R/+R/+R9 media. The official firmware from Pioneer only
allows a limited set of Pioneer approved media to use these
speeds but this patch removes that limitation. Write
strategies for approved media should not be altered by the
patch.
PROPER BURN OF NON APPROVED MEDIA IS NOT GUARANTEED!
Not patched: - Bitsetting ("Burn on -R media instead, people!!!")
- nx4all on RW media. Tests have shown that burning RW media
at higher than rated speed was a bad idea
Release Notes: Consider this firmware as beta, especially on the +R/+R9 side
AGAIN, HIGH SPEED BURN OF LOW GRADE MEDIA IS NOT GUARANTEED
Flashing Instructions: 1/ Download the latest version of DVRFlash from
http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org and extract the executable you
need (Windows, DOS or Linux) in the directory where you
extracted the patched firmwares
2/ READ THE DVRFLASH INSTRUCTIONS!!!
3/ If you are flashing from windows, and I: is your DVR-107
drive, open a DOS window and type a command like:
DVRFlash -v I: R8100108.114
or, *IF* you need to flash the kernel (Rebadged -> Pioneer):
DVRFlash -vf I: R8100008.114 R8100108.114
Alternatively, if all of the above looks too advanced to you
you can use the graphical user interface addon to DVRFlash
Useful Links: http://forum.rpc1.org/ (DVD-R/RAM/+RW section)

Thanks to: Flash, Agent Smith and the generous contributor who sent
me a DVR-108 drive ;

First, big thanks for all your hard work NIL.
Second, something is wrong for me and +R.
I try to burn at 12x on Traxdata 4x (RICOHJPNR01) , Arita 4x (RICOHJPNR01) and Verbatim (MCC 002) and every time I get error mesage "Internal Target Failure" on 46%. It is place where started 12x burnig.
My burnig software is last Nero and I try it 6 times. (2 times on Traxdata, 2 times on Verbatim and .....)

Sorry for my bad Englis ......

Is there any way to tell whether I have a 108D or XL without physically removing the drive from my system?

Verbatim is not a crapy disc.

Buda...
The drive ITSELF determines wether the disc can actually sustain a 12x burn if not it's coaster time.
This is NOT a firmware issue, your 108 doesn't hink yor discs will go 12x so the burn fails.
Remember this brilliant patch (thanks Nil  ) is not a guarantee but a means to see if the your media will overburn,

You could try updating nero,or trying record now etc but the drive itself will test the media(hence the delay on each zcav step) if it isn't happy the burn ceases there.

XL drives have the nice looking faceplate as shown on Gradius' site, standard drives have a normal looking faceplate. You can also use DVRFlash to see your Kernel/Normal type with a command like "dvrflash -v X:", XL models have a kernel type of "PIO_ADV" while standard drives have a kernel type of "GENERAL"

Yes, you sure can, but remember that you cannot go back to Asus firmware since the Asus kernel is not available...

You must be using version 2.0 of DVRFlash, older versions do not support the DVR-108

Hello Nil

Thanks for the patch. I am having a problem with Ritek 8X +R R03-01 discs. When I put in a R03-01 into DVD decrypter the drive says disc not empty and it doesn't even populate the info window. After this I can remove the disc and close out of dvd decrypter but windows still thinks there is a disc in the drive. So if I try to flash my drive, dvrflash ejects my drive and a message says to remove disc but there isn't a disc in the drive. So I have to reboot to get the drive to read empty. Now if I insert a Ritek G05 8X-R into DVD decrypter it populates the window and tells me all about the disc.

I tried pioneers 110 + 114 and they see the Ritek as R03-01(but only@ 4x)

I tried Gradius 114 hacked rip firmware and it sees my Riteks as r03-01

I tried Nil 106 and it sees them as r03-01 as well.

Why can't the hacked 114 by Nil see these discs? DVD Decrypter says disc not empty.

Any help appreciated.

Hello,

First off, thanks for your hard work and dedication >Nil.

I'm also having the same problem as Reality. With >Nil's new 1.14 firmware, I'm unable to dectect DVD info using dvd dcryp, dvdinfopro and nero (all latest versions). Using the stock 1.14 and gradius 1.14 my drive is able to dectect the DVD info. By the way, it's not just the ritek r03-01, it's with any disc.

FYI: I'm using the OEM 108 and flashed it with "R8100108.114"

Well Im glad to see its not just my drive. I just bought it last week. It came with firmware 110 and I updated to Nils 106. Worked great. Ripped single layer disc @ 16.3X (wow) But then I put on nil 114 and here we are... Does your system get wierd too? When you try and access the drive after dvd decrytper has given the message, does it still think it has media in it? When I double click the dvr-108 in my computer it says cannot access disc.

Ps. Skinny, When you say any disc, do you meen any +R disc or are you having problems with both +R and - R?

>Nil:,
I have upgraded to your 1.14 firmware and was able to successfully burn a +R Media-001 4x @ 8x with PI Errors = 323 and PIF Errors = 9, which was to be expected.
After reading Reality and Skinny's posts I decided to put a Ritek R03 into the drive and the computer locked up with the drive light on and had to reset the computer to get the disc out.
After the reset I put the disc back in and the light went out..so far so good.
I then went into DVDInfo Pro and clicked on media and the message I got back was "Media info for CD/DVD media only" I then went into DVD Decrypter and under ISO write it shows this
Code:
PIONEER DVD-RW  DVR-108 1.14 (ATA)
Current Profile: CD-ROM

Disc Information:
Status: Incomplete
Erasable: No
Sessions: 1

and says the Disc is not empty.
I then tried NeroInfo Tool and it couldn't see the disc, here is the info.
[code]
Drive Information
------------------
Drive : PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-108
Type : DVD

Please clarify A08.
This patch is for all 108 drives except XL ones, for which a patch will follow.
Don't ask when.

Yours is obviously none of this:
Quote:
Drive: Pioneer DVR-108 (Dual format 16x speed DVD+/-/DL Burner)
Also known as: DVR-108, DVR-108D, DVR-108B

so you have to wait.

Reality, I get the same thing as you do. After trying to ID Ritek R03 and taking it out, the drive thinks that there is still media inside.

I tested these various media with DVDinfo and this is what I found:

+R: Yuden T02, Ricohjpnr00 and r01, Ritek r02 all were id correctly without error.

-R: Yuden TYG02 and Ritek G04 were id correctly.

Ritek R03-01 and R03-02 gave the error mentioned above

I thought it failed to id any other disc because the drive thought it still had media inside it after testing with R03 and therefore didn't give me any information besides

Media Information

Manufacturer Media Code Not Specified
Media Type CD-ROM
