I want to flash sony u18a with liteon 832s.
I would like to confirm the steps.
1. First I will download the LITE ON version 832sVs05. from the page .http://dhc014.rpc1.org/indexOEM.htm#SOHW-832S
2. then I modify this version with OmniPatcher (I have to chech the last box to enable cros fl.
3. I have to run the exe file.
question: using omnipatcher I flash directly the firmware vs05 or first i have to flash usy1 for sony?
Is there any problem after pacthing?

You can flash directly to VS05.

This may be a really stupid question, but I only bought my first dvd r drive today (gigabyte 0808a, usy1). Read quite a lot about the dl upgrade but I don't want to go and mess up things just yet...

Is it safe to flash to a version of 832s higher than vs05? like VS0A - Dated "2004/07/16 21:17". Your posts are dated after the vs08 release, but youre still talking about vs05

or am i just being paranoid?

I flashed my Sony drw u18 with VSOA (lite on 832) but I still cant change booke type.
I use the liteon utility but nothing change. Please help

From the little information that you gave I will guess that you are using the Liteon BookType Utility to check the booktype of the disc after it is burned. This is not acceptable as the Liteon booktype utility (version 1.0.6) always shows the disc type as the actual disc type. It's not showing you the booktype of the disc. Use DVDInfoPro to see the disc's booktype.

yes I am using lite on utility. I have also used dvdinfo but I still can not change the book type.
I tried to burn media with nero 6, dvd decrypter and alcohol 120%.

why not try autobitsetting with omnipatcher
btw the booktype is selected before the actual burn
