I have a DRU-510A that is displaying an incorrect name string in the bios and windows. As such the official firmware upgrade wont flash the drive.. the usual "No Updatable drive exists".

Can someone point me in the direction of a copy of the latest upgrade with the hack to allow deployment onto any drive?

I downloaded Visual Studio 6 to look for a decompiler to change the name string myself but i really haven't got a clue where to start.

PS, i've tried the U14->510 version but i think its looking specifically for a U14 rather than removing the name check.

Thanks in advance,

Luke

Not sure that's practical, the flasher has to search for something. Use hijacker's DiscInfo and post the results (File, Save), it might be possible to alter the flasher to look for that.

It was this kind of comment ->
Sony DRU-500A 2.0f updater:
1) go to offset 1B6C and change byte 74 to EB
2) go to offset 1B8B and change byte 74 to EB
3) go to offset 1BAB and change byte 74 to EB

In this thread http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=1 ... ght=offset

That made me think changing 3 bytes values... well that cant be programing in a new name string... it must just be changing the state of the 'if' condition.. ie continue with program IF name 1 and 2 are the same or not.

Well good news so far, it recognised the drive and successfully flashed it, its reading discs too. I need to get some more DVDr media to test it and i'll report the results.

but for now...

BRILLIANT!

Thanks very much, its brought it back to life and now there is a little hope.

PS: Now that its running fine as a sony DRU-510a, what other mods are available? RPC0 or Ripping adjusters etc?

LED flashes maybe because the source cannot supply the data fast enough.
What do you expect from using the eject button while burning??

I'm 90% sure this will cure your problem. I've personally rescued 32 drives in this way.

go into windows and run the patch.

i have not seen it hurt even 1 drive. Brother Vlad has done a brilliant job with this patch. Thanks again.

i have no written about 30 dvds without problem.

Link does work FINE.
You maybe have a firewall/http referrer conflict. Fix this and it will work properly for you.

Worked perfect after I disabled the firewall. Man can you believe Sony wanted $180 to fix it?

Thanks all

The boot code from the 1.1a firmware reports as SONY BOOT DRU-510A 0.7f, as described earlier. If yours is different you'll need to post the summary (File, Save) from DiscInfo. http://hijacker.rpc1.org/discinfo/

What exactly did you flash this drive with to get it into this situation?

Brother Vlad

Hi,

I've exactly the same problem and Disc Info show the same information : Firmware version : 07f, Vendor Spec : Apr 04 2003. So I try to use your patch but when I start it, it's only show : No Updatable drive exists.

Hum... of course there is no Sony drive because the firmware is out of control ! So, how can I force the Drive Firmware Updater software to show my Sony DRU-510A ??

It's seem to be very strange because it's the same problem posted here but no one has this problem ?

Thank you for your assistance.

Ok, sorry everybody. Through all the links in this topic, I've downloaded the original firmware software but not the BOOT510A !! With this one, it works fine... Thanks to The Dangerous Brothers.
