BTW, in the firmware that "The Dangerous Brothers" posted, what does "with patched binaries" means?

2510ORIG.BIN your original binary as supplied
2510FAST.BIN 2100@2500 and Rip Lock Patches
2510RPC1.BIN RPC1, 2100@2500 and Rip Lock Patches

2100@2500 allows the firmware to work on a 2100A drive if you have one

Rip Lock removes the speed locks on single and dual layer DVD-ROM discs with a VIDEO_TS directory.

RPC1 removes region state handling commands and checks.

OK, I flashed my drive with this firmware and got a small problem - HDD LED is always ON after flashing. It turns off only when disc inside or when tray is open. (I used 2510orig.bin)

Mine opend the tray after the flash then once windows was running the LED gave 2 flashes at regular intervals, the tray also opend on every boot.

The drive was reported as a 2510 and DVD+R DL but i doubt it would have worked

Nero Vision Express now recognize the drive as DVD9 capable burner.

I have flashed too.
the flash was without problems. I have the 2 flashes intervalling too but i have burn a DVD yet with Data on a cheap DVD+R Media.
Works fine. I can read it and i could burn it. DVD+R DL too.

Give this Firmware a chance. Maybe it is the ultimate Firmware for double layer. And this LEDs don't disturb me and the drive too... looks so. Now we need a DVD+R9 media to test the DL burning.

Just successfully burned a DVD-R. This f/w looks good so far. I hope Herrie or TDB will fix the HDD LED problem.

Iam using RPC1 for sure ;).

Yes HDD LED away and the restart-open-crap ...then it is the best FW on the world for this drive maybe.

Brother Vlad,

Any chance of the 2510A firmware made with a windows based flashing program for 2500A/2100A? Thanks!

Think I will wait until DL media actually becomes available before flashing with this or any other version ;)

and by that time, I am sure we'll have a fully working firmware! Looks like DVD+R DL media is still a couple months out from being fully available.

What's the use of all this pre-mature trial&error testing, when there isn't even empty media available yet ?

Not sure that's a true statement, you might not have any, but there are without doubt people out there who have 2500 drives and DL media. LiteOn, Sony and Benq beta-tester and reviewers have a limited supply of DL blanks.

While we'd agree that the most effective test would be to see a 2500 burn DL discs, in the absense of that media people can still evaluate whether the rest of the drive functions correctly.

Brother Vlad

you are right, if nothing else we can show that the 2500@2510 still can burn SL media with the same or better quality as say the stock 1.07 f/w

btw I wont post it but the kp2.1 scan of cmc E01 media at 8x for the stock 1.07 f/w was almost identical to the kp1.1.29 scan on the 2510 f/w pi levels in 8x area made a shape just like on the 2510 scan, now i dont know if this just my 2500 with 8x problems or f/w, but I can say that herrie did 108v2b patch for me that all but made the mountain in the 8x area go away so I think its f/w not set right for burn strategy on cmc E01 that makes the mountain on 8x

Unfortuantely, most who do have DL media for testing/review are under agreements to use the DL media that they got only for the drive that they are testing/reviewing. Unless someone is willing to jeopardize their relationship with the company who sent them the review unit, I don't think that many people will be using one of their DL discs to confirm that this works. :(

Great review...looks like a read speed unlock is require to get those +R DL's up to at least 6x like the Liteon or even 8x...

Well that's truely excellent news my liege. Knew someone could make it happen if we could get the parts together.

Thanks for the review and test, and thanks also go out to abubin for providing us with the firmware.
