As promised, here it is:
DVR-106D v1.07 - RPC-1 + 2xDVD-R + 12xRip.zip
This firmware has been tested (Thanks to FLASHMAN and nicw). UPGDVD.exe has also been patched and should allow to flash this firmware on any DVR-106 drive, regardless of its current firmware revision.

Once the RPC-1 is released, is it hard to release an RPC-2 auto-reset ? (as it exists for HLDS 4240N for instance, or old pioneer dvd reader (105s)...
this is very handy because you dont need any kind of software to make it works (no dvd region free, nothing else)...
so question : do you plan to release an RPC2 autoreset version of the 1.07 firmware ?

Hi NIL
Cool that you have patch version 1.07 ready "that was quick"
But what about the OEM Version ( you have to think of all us)
PIONEER DVD RW DVR-106D
I need to update this ¤ucking drive from 1.05 to 1.07 but i tried your upgrade it mentioned
UPGRADE TARGET IS NOT FOUND
because it have another name on the same ¤ucking drive
IT is not AO6 IS DVR

Long time lurker here but I just had to register and thank you NIL!
Perfect work. Everything works. 1x SW tech dvd burns at 2x and ripping is much much faster now!
Me so happy
Oh and I have the Pioneer DVR-106D (OEM) and it worked Sleeper

1/ I'm not interested in releasing autoreset mainly for political reasons (RPC-2 as a mean of seggregating the world should be eradicated, and autoreset is still RPC-2), plus what you forget is that player and O/S can very easily add security that prevent you from changing your counters more than 5 times, even if you have an autoreset'd drive (hell, that's what they do when they detect that the drive is RPC-1) so you'll still need some software.
Moreover, the 106 autoreset (which I did investigate) is a nifty trick to pull out and I can't spend my life on the 106. UJDA people have been waiting for me to finish the 7xx autopatcher longer than you guys have been waiting for 106 patch.
2/ I did think of all of you, and I did try to patch upgdvd for all situations, including OEM's. The only thing is, it's boring as hell to patch when you don't have the drive, and anybody can do it since it's x86 disassembly. If you post the full information (the complete UPGDVD messages from start to finish) as well as full ID from your drive (is it ALDI?) I'll try to have a look into it. But really, anybody with a good x86 disassembler, the relevant drive and a little bit of experience should be able to sort this problem.

Thanks for you answer...
I'd moderate it though : I've been using RPC autoreset drive for 3 years now...and I've haven't found any os nor software checking if I do change my counter more than 5 times.
However, I do understand that once you've find an acceptable solution to patch a drive (as RPC1 is), you want to change to another drive...that makes sense, and I'm ready to bet there are thousands of users wainting desperatly for a proper firmware...
"Nuff said" as would say Ali G

That is quite correct no way would it work, when you run the executable from the zip folder it is first extracted on its own into the windows temporary folder before it is run, it needs the other files in the same folder for it to work as you found out

Two thumbs up!!
Now I'm really thinking of buying an A06...
The 4x DvD+R are getting cheaper and cheaper - another 6 months and my principals (of NOT doing DvD+R) are going to cost me money
gr,
Remco
ps. a good thing is always worth waiting

I'm not saying that...I said I would have prefered an RPC-2 firmware cause I find it more convenient...but RPC1 and even improved RCP1 (with ripping and burning speed tweaked) is far better than a standard RPC2

Unfortunately the upgrade is not working on the ASUS DRW-0402P/D. UPGDVD is saying: Available target is not found
This may help in patching:
ID : ASUS DRW-0402P/D
Hardware Version : ATA 0006
Kernel Version : ASUS
Destination : ASUS
File Type : Kernel
Kernel Version2 : 0001
Keep up the good job!

Same when i try with the Teac DV-W50D-"Available Target is not Found"
What's to do, that the FirmwareUpdater Identify the Teac?

I have tried out one more thing, I have replaced in UPGDVD.EXE the following string (2x times):
GENERAL PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-106D
with
ASUS ASUS DRW-0402P/D
and now it says 1 Target device found but after clicking on Do you want to update the drive the following appears in the dos window:
Quote: /// DVD-ROM/DVD-RW Firmware Update Utility Ver1.71E
Start updating the device No.1. Current Revision>> ASUS DRW-0402P/D 1.05 03/05/23 Now updating the firmware. Please do not turn off the power and do not reset the pc. Failed to move to the kernel mode. Update program is terminated by occuring an error.
Any idea?

DVR-A07 is comming in november or december'03, and will be an 8x DVD-R drive (the last one). I dunno if will continue to be a dual format (- and +) drive.
If you can wait until then... I recommend.
Next comming (2004) will be Blue-ray drives (or variants), I hope the prices drop early in 2005.

the Upgrade.bat is simply a script that calls the UPGDVD file for you withh the correct parameter and will flash your drive to tne new version regardless of what version it currently is.
enjoy...and send some thanx to >Nil: and the guys.
cheers
