since free blocks are now -27820032
it makes me wonder if the power calibraiton error has made the disc unusable now.

will try another disc of same media and report if the same thing happens

tried another princo disc at 4x and got the power calibration error

tried again with another princo 4x disc at 2x this time and got illegal disc

and it now gives on the 2 discs i just tried
as the Free Blocks being -27820032

if anyone knows what that free blocks - means
please do mention it

i see it as what would have been left and not free any more had the burning actually worked on the disc.

EDIT: i havent upgraded the drive to etna's 1.09 firmware
so dont know if it would help burn that media or not

Guys!

Why the heck do you try to burn the cheapest -R media that even the NEC1300 can handle well!!????
The NEC1300 has even trouble with decent RITEKG04. So - if this wants to prove that the upgraded 1100 for -R CAN burn -R and the discs can be read - then you have to sacrifice some good (expensive!!!!) -R discs for this test. Everything else is just a waste of time and effort. Do the black or white thing. If it works with good media- then it is successful and maybe some patchers can modify the strategies for cheaper media. If it doesn't - forget about it.

After many things that has been said about Princo media I don't know or undesrtand how someone can still buy them. There are other cheap brands out there..

I use MAN and DAO ( i don't think they are princo) with excellent results... I bought 2 spindles of 25 discs each and spent 56€. That means 1.12€ each disk... Not bad at all since they burn at 4x.. Anyway here in Portugal besides Princo I hasn't able to find anything that cheap that actually works...

Ohh one other thing... I'm burning them with a Pioneer A06 that also makes some difference...

I flashed my ND1100a with the 1.08 booktype firmware and then tried some Emtec 2x DVD-R

It seems to burn OK at 2 speed. My ND1100, my Liteon LT122 dvdrom and my LVD-2001 dvdplayer play the disk OK :)

Media Information
Disc Regions are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
Media code/Manufacturer ID 4M SYS 202C1
Format Type UDF 1.02
Volume Name NEW
Application id
Implementation id AHEAD Nero

Media Id Code Speed Unknown
Available Write Descriptor CLV 2.0x 2770KBps

I didn't do the full read error test yet (only a few minutes), but there seem to be some errors there which don't show when you're watching the movie  . I'll try to do some more elaborate testing soon. Still it's great to have a 1300 now!

Cheers for making it possible dudes!

It seems only to be a problem with 1.09...with 1.08 i have no problems with Verbatim DVD-R 4x@4x (i only use Verbatim) ! They are all fully readable in DVD-Drives and Players. So there must be something different in the 1.09 which cause such problems.

Hi all!

I'm new at this forum but I'm reading the topics since I bought a
NEC 1100A in May last year.
Of course I flashed the new firmware for DVD-R/RW-burning
immediately and ... IT WORKS!

Here my tests (with FW 1.08b)

1. DVD-R MMORE 4x

Media Information
Disc Regions are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
Media code/Manufacturer ID OPTODISCK001

Available Write Descriptor CLV 4.0x 5540KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 2.0x 2770KBps
Write Strategy Speed 4.0x 5540KBps

2x Speed OPC power 0F
2x Write Strategy field 1 11 86 67 80
2x Write Strategy field 2 88 80 00 00 00 00

Recognized and burned with 4x (12 min.!).
Runs in the NEC itself (verified after burning with Nero)
and in my standalone Yamada-Player!
Perfect!

Hi,
I have a bunch of Verbatim DVD+RWs, which are only readable in the ND-1100A (now ND-1300 1.08ve).
Using DVD info, I get no result in reading the Media code/Manufacturer ID , it just shows a blank line. The advanced command never works, even on media showing correct Media code/Manufacturer ID .

How do you get these IDs printed ?

bye

You have to format a DVD+RW first, THEN you can read the MID out.

With which drives did you test those discs??

You should have a look here also: www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdmedia/

You have to format a DVD+RW first, THEN you can read the MID out.

The media is formated and there's allready data on it, which can be read only be the writer itsself.

I tested on DVR-1600H, QSI CDRW/DVD SBW-241, Playstation2 and some unknown Dell-drive at work .. all failed.
Only the ND1100A ( now 1300A V1.08ve) reads them right.

A friend owns a differend NEC-Writer (don't know the label at the moment), which burns the same brand perfect, so they work in PS2 and
all other drives... must be a writer issue.

Thanks for your interresting link, I'll add my ( disappointing) results there.

How do I read the media-ID hexdump from these DVD+RWs. My writer doesn't like the advanced command -> media Id from DVDInfo and my DVDROM either ..

For the MID you just click on the Media-icon at the top.

You can also try ADVDInfo, maybe it works.
But it should, if you have ASPi installed.

Which advanced command did you use?
Some commands cannot be used with DVD+R/W media.

Tried 1.09 today:
:? EMTEC 2x speed DVD-R burned videodvd with dvddecrypter from iso => unreadable in Liteon dvd-rom and unreadable in Liteon LVD2001 standalone.
When I tried this brand on 1.08 firmware it was readable in standalone and dvd-rom though dvdinfo showed read errors.

:D On the positive side: Arita DVD+R 2,4 shows as 4 speed on 1.09 fw and burns 4x without errors whereas it shows as 2,4 on 1.08 fw. (I tried an empty disk wihout burning on 1.08 and nero said 2.4, later on I tried the same disk on 1.09 and it said 4X and burend OK at 4X)

I've got the same free speed-upgrade with That's Write 2.4x +R (ricoh media probably just like arita).
But I do not fully trust it because dvdinfo shows no "Media Id Code Speed" before burn and afterwards shows speed 2.4x!!
I didn't test the media with dvdinfo with f/w 1.A0, but 4x wasn't possible then, so I guess the drive did return media speed before burn with the original f/w :?:

nec1100 @ 1300 @ 1.09
that's write dvd+r (RICOHJPNR00)

before burn:

Region information N/A not a DVD-VIDEO
Manufacturer ID cannot be read
Format Capacity Not Formatted
Free Blocks 405405696
Free Capacity 4.38GB(4.70GB)
Book Type Unknown
Media Type DVD+R
Media Id Code Speed Unknown
Available Write Descriptor CLV 4.0x 5540KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 2.4x 3324KBps
Linear Density Blank Disc
Track Density Unknown

after burn:

Disc Regions are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
Media code/Manufacturer ID RICOHJPNR00
Format Type UDF 1.02
Volume Name STAR_WARS_II
Application id
Implementation id AHEAD Nero
Recording Date/Time (mm/dd/yyyy) 1/12/2004 18:22:04
Format Capacity 4.37GB(4.69GB)
Book Type DVD+R
Media Type DVD+R
Media Id Code Speed 2.4x 3324KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 4.0x 5540KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 2.4x 3324KBps
Data area starting sector 30000h
Data area end sector 22F3EFh
Linear Density 0.267um/bit
Track Density 0.74um/track
Number of Layers 1

I've burnt 2 full dvd-video on these media at 4x with Nero. Burn/verify is ok in the nec, dvdinfo read test in lite-on 166s and pioneer 115 gives all green, filecopy on pioneer is ok and yamaha stand-alone plays them like always.
