That's why the program was removed.

Nicw: How is the testing going? Have you found something useful to share?
I wonder when the utility is going to be available again directly from its author? I have a Liteon LDW-811S that is waiting for been transformed, but I like to be sure that it will not be messed up.
Is there another utility like this one that permits me reset the region counters and set the drive region free?
Thanks

I've been trying out DVD-Region-Free from http://www.dvdidle.com
Just got my new LiteOn 811s yesterday...
As a test last night I used DVDshrink (3.0 beta5) to backup my Region2 of Shawshank Redemption, first time I ran, DVDshrink complains immediately at CSS protection on the disc, I then ran DVD-Region-Free, rebooted and I could rip this disc fine
2nd test I tried Region1 of AmericanPie, I always get the CSS protection
error with DVDshrink - going to try a different Region1 disc tonight see if
it makes any difference but so far doesn't look like the ideal solution to
get my drive region FREE
Anyone else got an alternative please?
Thanks, Fedorov.

Fedorov: You have PM m8, it is not exactly related to your question.

PM reply to you Thorz
Btw, reinstalled DVD Region-Free, all working great, every region/protection I've tried works in PowerDVD and DVDshrink and DVDDecryptor

Until I find the time to do some testing I cannot release it.
To anyone who has posted links to a copy somewhere I ask you to remove it, as all licences have been revoked and you are now in breach of copyright.
I have withdrawn this program due to reports of it killing some drives mainly OEM liteons. I have not yet found time to investigate these claims and so I consider the program to dangerous at this point in time.
DO NOT USE IT.
cheers
NicW

I sure did manage to make my Lite-on DVD writer region free. I found I had to set a region first tho before turning RPC off. I would always recommend playing a DVD and setting a region code before trying to make it region free.
Now all we need is a utilaty to set it to write DVD+Rs with the DVD-ROM booktype setting. Prohaps it could be combined with the RPC utilaty.
Thankyou for your work on this utilaty and wish you all a happy new year.
John72.

Why do you need this?

Mostly you dont and its becoming less required each day. There are very very few players that require such and wont play either -R or +R without special settings. The current cost of dvd players that play anything is very cheap now. Do n
ot worry about it.
cheers

I just ran your latest version I had downloaded before the problems became obvious and it worked fine on my true LiteOn 811 also, now region free, still burns fine, and plays movies. Thanks for the effort Nic. Don't know that I really needed it either but it's nice to have full control over my own hardware and what I can do with it.

Its nice to kow that it is working with the original LDW-811s. I have downloaded the util from th link that dragonA posted but I have not used it yet. I don't need to unlock the drive yet, but it is always nice to have the util arround for when the day comes.
Have you updated to the last firmware? No probs after?

I had the latest then I too went to Pacmans hoe speed+ version and so far I think it does better then the newest release. I'm still getting it dialed in but I think the region and speed firmware are the best combo, I'll let ya know if I change my mind after I stuff more media through it.

Hi,
I managed to use the utility on my 411s couple of weeks ago and it worked. But when I checked again last night with DVDinfopro, it reverted back to RPC-2. I tried again to use the utility, but it would not change for me. Clicking on the "Region Free" or the "RPC Reset" buttons did nothing. The utility itself also says my 411s is RPC-2 and locked. I had flashed the drive to FS0F prior to using the utility and everything still seemed to be working. Any ideas?

Will L*nf***h be further developed? V1.2.4 is dated 09/2003, if I'm right.
