Just bought some Verbatim DVD+R 4x Certified here at the store in Germany. Media ID is YUDEN000T01 so they work at 8x writing speed.
Just to let you guys know :)

Looks like a nice drive to me actually...

I was about to buy another NEC 1300A, but then I saw this one.
So I'm now very interested in that baby.

Thanks for those nice test, Pacman!! 8-)

can only find 2 brands in the shops by me that will burn at x4 the rest x1 on dvd-rs and can find any dvd+rs that will burn anyfaster that x2.4 if that was sorted out then i think this would be the best out there

Yes, indeed.

My opinion so far is that this drive rocks.
Approx. € 150 for a drive like this (retail) is a real bargain!

I'm under the impression that the upcoming new star from NEC could be a drive with a similar hardware-design/layout... at least I hope so.
That would mean, that maybe gurus like Herrie would be interested in patching Firmwares etc....you know.

So, SEEING IS BELIEVING.

I think I'll go for this drive, to me actually there is no real competitor to this drive on the market.

PS: In most cases the "plus" format is indeed the better format, but this has been discussed a long time and partially matters from the person its own preferences... On the other side this is no surprise, cause the "minus"-format is the origin and therefore older.

So, greets and happy burning!

Pacman I need your help with something, since you also have the ldw811s, isn't it strange that the new firmware we are using is no longer avaible for download and that ldw811s only appears in liteonit and not on the liteon main portal page (yesterday it did, by the way)? between I'm completely new to dvd recording and I boght a 25dvd-r box of sky dvd-r's and altough it says it allows 2x I can only get 1x and if that wan't enough I get a session fixation error in all the 4 test's i did (personal data, and a backup image of a linux I bought(suse)), I'm only having prooblems with the sky dvd's, moore, tdk, medianca also record well.

I hope you or someone can answer my questions, thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english.

The problem is maybe that 2x DVD-R is NO standard, only 4x and 1x exists. Therefore it depends everytime on the burner and its Firmware...

As you said by yourself, SKY -R are not the best media. I would stick them to NoName with a name or something like that.

Greets.

Thanks about 2x not being a standard, I didn't know, just leaves the question open about no info being given at the moment about ldw811s, altough they might be doing some update on the webpage.

"I would love to do it", i have read over Herries tutorial for months but cannot get to grips on how he does it lol.. All i have ever done is change the P`s to R`s in the hex and rebuild it using the tool herrie supplied.

Yes that can be done, but I would rather not. as the results are crap, if you want a specific MID code changed to 8x just ask and I will do it for you.

Ok good point, but i would like to c a MID code change on the 2.5 + to 4x on the Ritek + Based disks, im thinking the disks of that type shoudnt cause many probs?..
We have the Mirrors which i posted they need sorting as they r only writting at 2.5 Not 4x as stated.

OK these r Ritek based 2.5x. Bulkpaq, Purple in colour
Media Code:
08 02 00 00 A1 0F 02 00 00 03 00 00 00 26 05 3F .............&.?

Hmmm. i went away and thought about that question?.

Ok my thoughts.
Why not give us the 4x to 8x also 2.5 to 4x on the disks based on top Notch dyes IE Ritek and others we all know about, and let the users decide what they want to do.
If the companys that produce the Drives can do it, im sure you lot can. as some of whats out there is supposed to b able to write at 8x anyway.
We as the users can test and post our own findings.I done it.

All thats needed is a "warning use update at your own risk" and create another with genu updates codes to allow the specified write speeds for users that dont want to take the risk.

We all flash/Hack our drives so far, so why not on this project?.
Give it a Go we can only try;-)

The same goes for chips in cars and pretty much everthing else to improve life."Go for It", i dont mind testing my drive, its only Money and you only have 1 life. (werez that Joint LOL)

please would u think about adding these 3 ids into a new firmware the first id is for a dvd+r disk it will only write at x2.4 but there x4 disks i have 4 difrent brands and they all have this id
00000000 08 02 00 00 A1 0F 02 00 00 03 00 00 00 20 A1 EF ............. ..
00000010 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 4D 45 44 49 41 20 49 44 30 .......MEDIA ID0
00000020 30 31 00 38 23 54 37 13 02 4A 71 02 90 66 16 16 01.8#T7..Jq..f..
00000030 0B 0B 0A 0A 01 1C 1E 0B 0C 12 12 01 00 00 00 00 ................

the second is for mirror dvd-r x4 that will only write at x1
00000000 00 6C 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52 00 02 87 0E 15 .l...@....R.....
00000010 98 9A 90 00 03 49 4E 46 4F 53 4D 00 04 41 52 54 .....INFOSM..ART
00000020 30 31 00 00 05 CC C0 00 00 00 01 00 06 0B 10 11 01..............

the third is multi play dvd-r x4 will only write at x1
00000000 00 6C 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52 00 02 87 0E 15 .l...@....R.....
00000010 98 9A 90 00 03 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 04 00 00 00 ................
00000020 00 00 00 00 05 CC C0 00 00 00 01 00 06 0B 10 11 ................

if u could do this i would be very greatful as these are the only disks i can get at the moment by me and as it stands now my new 811s is a down grade to my pioneer 105 and im gutted like ive said before this drive could be the best out there if it wasnt for the media suport from liteon hope u can other wise i can see me sending this drive back and i really dont want to do that

Take the 1MB HS0E firmware binary (not the official update exe). You will find the RitekR02 part around $C01D2. Change address $C01EB from $06 to $1E to allow 8x burning.
