Whats the latest firmware for this drive? I have UX08 on mine.

I am having major problems with it reading cdr's, mainly its not reading bin/cue's burnt with fireburner using my main PC's LiteOn drive, the disks are read by the liteon and my pioneer dvd drive fine.

I've tried different speeds and different media but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Also if there is new firmware, how can I update it? as the laptop has no floppy drive, and I don't have an external one, not sure if it will boot from a usb disk.

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 500m with this drive and it has firmware UD22. However, I noticed that there's a standalone USB 2.0 version of this drive that has a different firmware called U301. Now my Dell's drive can be stopped using the Plugin Device Manager, so I assume it is some sort of USB 2.0 connection itself.

Perhaps the D in UD22 stands for Dell's firmware revision. I'm in the same boat as you regarding no floppy, I have emailed Etna since he/she appears to know something about QSI drives, but I haven't received a response as yet. I wasn't able to use MTKFlash to grab the firmware either, but there is firmware listed for the external SBW-242 family here:

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1679

Hopefully there isn't any real difference in the firmwares between that and the laptop variant, so maybe Etna can mod that firmware or decypher the region coding part which I'm after.

Anyway you could try the firmware above, just notice that it is not specifically designed for your drive. I take no responsibility.... :)

I encountered an SBW-242 in a Dell Inspiron 8500. I made a 50MB FAT partition and used mtkflash 1.80 to create a backup of the UD22 firmware which I sent to etna. He responded. I don't know that I would risk flashing to U301. I was quite impressed by the drive's performance, actually.

An RPC1 patch for the NU/QSI CDRW/DVD SBW242 is available for beta testing. It's based on U301, and contains the Windows flasher and a raw binary suitable for MTKFlash.

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_file.php?site=tdb1&file=SBW242R1.ZIP

dhc014 please send us any other binarys you have and we'll apply the patch.

Hi.
I have tested the RPC1 patch but now Nero Burning ROM did not work with the drive.
So I need the original firmeware to reinstall it.

Thanks for your help.

It's a pity you didn't take the time to make a backup first. What version did you start with? Perhaps Nero doesn't like it reporting as a "NU" drive? Is it a retail version of Nero or an OEM version bundled with the drive?

I'll don't know the version before upgrading.
My notebook is a Yakumo Q7M Mobilium XD from August 2003, it is produced for the german area.
Nero can`t find the drive automaticly.
Nero is an OEM Version and if I make a test for autoconfiguration Nero will only found a very slow cd-rom, at the next start Nero didn't identify my drive. In many other programs the drive is only shown as a cd-rom and not as a dvd/cd-rom.

In the registry I have found this entry:
IDE\CdRomQSI_CDRW/DVD_SBW-242____________________UK01____\5&30c628f6&0&0.0.0
I'll think the correct firmware version is UK01?

ugh, it would have been very wise to make a backup before testing a beta firmware...

Try deleting the Drive's entry in Device Manager and restarting.

The UD22 firmware, with the QSI identifier can be found here
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_file.php?site=tdb1&file=UD22.ZIP

Contains the original and RPC1 firmware in binary form suitable for MTKFlash 1.80

When using betas, please always make a backup of your current version and send it in if that version is not already available.

Well the patch is stable, but it really depends what firmware you have now. We certainly can't recommend flashing a NU firmware onto a QSI drive as the burner software might be locked to work with a specific brand. Our desire is for others to do some testing.

So the initial questions would be what firmware do you have, and are you confortable downloading a firmware using MTKFlash?

hi

i have no problem with flashing a drive,
...

i don`t know which firmware there is on the drive - its a Acer comp, like i said - because it belongs to a friend of mine ...

but i have a problem with burning 90min cdr`s on it -
and i don`t think the patched firmware cares about that -
the region lock isn`t really bothering me ...

i`ll share the firmware as soon as i get my hands on it ...

Can anybody tell me if the dell firmware is better in handling bigger
cdr`s `??

salute

You can't use mtkflash from the command prompt in Windows. You must use it in real DOS.

Backup your firmware before you flash and keep this file safe.

Find out your current firmware using DISCInfo.

Yes I did. I have bootable disc. All of the operation was done in real DOS mode

Hi!

I have just bought a new ASUS L5800c notebook, with qsi sbw-242 internal drive. I use Nero 6 without any problem, but I can't use InCD. It can delete and format UDF cds, but when I try to copy anything to it, it says, there is no enogh place to copy the file.
Does anybody use InCD with this drive? What can be wrong?
