just wondering, since there is a hacked version of firmware that can make a 8040 drive (4x/4x/32x) to boost up to a 8x4x32x (CED-8080B/8081B), is there a 8080B -> 8120 B firmware available? (8x -> 12x) if u do, please email me or post it here :) thank you in advance :)

Hi,
the upgrade from the 8083b to the 8080b is possible, cause it's the same hardware with just another fw.
The 8120b, however, uses another chipset, afaik... So an upgrade will hardly be possible (i did some research myself, since I own an 8080b...).

Since Ive got a compaq (LG) crn8040b can i then jump it upto a 8080b with a patch, then use the firmware to unlock the regions for that? If so where do i get the upgrade patch.

Write back to wellingutd@hotmail.com.

Hi,
what device is the crn-8040b? A combo? Or a DVD-ROM?
At least, the ced-8080b we're talking of here is a cd-r writer, it can't read dvds...
So I definitly wouldn't want to try to flash a crn-8040b with fw for a ced-8080b!
