Now excuse me but I have had people saying that sony is very slack and there firmware updates do jack. I have got there latest version of firmware and it still does not burn sd2 so could someone tell me what other firmware is compatible with with 140e ide drive and burns sd2 or at least works with the amplified weak secotrs on cdclone enabled
people recon it burns efm encoding witht he right firmware but I have no idea what firmware would be best to put on it

First of all, the amplify weak sectors option is automatically disabled for some countries like the US, and Japan. In order to use it you must change something in the registry. To the best of my knowledge, there is only one firmware available for the drive too, version [url=http://121ware.com/download/pc/module/pc98-nx/other/cdrwd/win/140e10s/140E10S.EXE]1.0s[/url].

Sony have prevented their drive working correctly with the protection.

Anyway in order to enable the 'amplify weak sectors' setting and 'hide CDR media' simply goto 'language and region settings' and set your location to somewhere else other than US or Japan (France definitely works). Do this before you load up CloneCD and guess what, weak sector amplify is enabled!
