As only Verbatim has 4x DVD+R media on the market at the moment, it's difficult to tell if there's some kind of identifier. What I did not is that there's one obvious difference between the media codes :)

All 2,4x media show 00 at this place :) So I guess that determines the speed! But for now I'm not able to tell!

This byte is "Extended Information Indicator" and 4x DVD+R media with mfr ID "RICOHJPNR01" such as Memorex has 01 here too so you're probably right:

Is this enough? I choosed show complete media code in DVDInfo.

I need 3 lines in order to completely check it! Could you try it again? Sometimes dvdinfo only gives 2 lines!

I only get the two lines, I have tried everything now, do you know of another program I can maybe use?

Be sure to download my last version. As far as I can see from your media code it should just work!

Just reflash it again and try it again! It has to work!

i tried to burn a data disc with nero now with my red top datawrite -R 4x and this also works very good, i used the verify option, checks were ok.
i watched all the divx i burned onto the disc and they ran just fine.
btw Herrie i have this 'odd' question:
i have a Dell Pc from september 2000 with in build NEC DVD read drive [DV5700A] and all normal dvd-rom discs from shops or rental work, but none of my -/+ R discs can be read, empty or full doesn't matter, it just freaks out and crashes my explorer, have to eject disc to regain control, any idea why this is and if you could look into -/+ R support for the drive or a place where i can find (info about) this?

[edit]
Won't work on OEM-drives according to the readme :(

Doesn't Dell have some update?

from the readme:
"liesmich (readme in english):
Firmwareupdate - Wichtige Information:

Das Firmwareupdate funktioniert nur mit ORIGINAL NEC Laufwerken,
nicht mit OEM Versionen von HP, PB, MEDION, DELL, Gateway etc.!"

that's why i didn't try the fw from NEC.. do you think they are serious?
cause i don't know what to do and i want to be able to read -/+ discs in my read drive too ;(

Herrie, your bootcd-images, won't work for me. (w2k)

When booting it says: "missing operating system".

So how should I do the booting? Can I somehow make a working bootcd for myself? Where to get the damn image?!

Frustration is futile, but it is.

there are some rumours that it doesn't, but because i don't like to burn for 1 hour the slowest i tried was 2x and that works always, why wait 1 hour for 1.1 euro per disc if you can burn in 28mins for 1.3 euro per disc?
;)

Ah - but why wait 28mins for 1.3 euro disk when you can burn in 15mins for the same price?
