@Herrie,
actually there are Memorex, Sony and TDK 4x DVD+R as well. maybe not yet available in Europe...
I have some 4x Memorex at home - haven't tested them yet. Will do and post the Media identifier here.

I'm not quite sure, but I thought you can only check the media code of burned DVD +R(W) discs!
But I would be pleased to see your results!

It doesn't matter much, the "auto" and "free"-version are in case you want to be able to watch DVD's with a other region-codes on a regular base

Hi Herrie thanks for all the time & effort you put it into the firmware updates/hacks.
but now iam a bit confused, so can you please tell me which is the latest firmware hack with best media support, i dont care about region free dvd support......cos i got a perfectly good dvd rom drive & i cant really see much point in wearing out an expensive burner.

It seems so, only SONY burners actually can read the mediacode from empty DVD+R/+RW discs.
nicw has posted some infos about it in his DVDInfo - thread.
He has asked Ricoh to insert that needed command (from mmc4 I think) in their next Firmware(s) to make it possible for Ricoh drives too to read them out from blank discs.
More info in the DVDInfo - thread (sticky).

You should go for this version: http://212.203.28.251/105xp.rar
This is the latest hacked "normal" FW without RPC-1 (codefree) support.

Herrie you are the best, I flashed my nd1300 one hour ago and tried to burn an image on the red top Datawrite -R Classic disc and it worked great @ 4x.
I'm so glad, i had 25 of them and no clue what to do, now i can use all of them and try out my white top 4x princo's as well and i'm very confident they will be working too. Great stuff i really appreciate all your effort.
Herrie 4 President!

In my version only the 105xp.bin is included.
Read the included README.TXT for further instructions, its all explained there.
UPDATE.
Well, garry35, you were right. I have 2 of them, the 2nd one (with the link I posted) has indeed the 2 bin files included.
I just used the 105xp.bin.

my guess was the xp was the original update and the yp was the latest 'beta' fix from Herrie, i took the yp one and it worked great!

That's correct - yp was a later version adding one media type that Herrie accidentally forgot to put into the xp release.

my question is ,all this updates that you guys are doing are they reversible? and will the new NEC firmware will be compatible, or will you be able to upgrade with the new NEC firmware in case the new one from NEC support more media?

You can re-flash your drive at any time with the original FW again...
I have no infos about if NEC included some counters in the FW to be able to know how often the drive were flashed, like it Pioneer did.
I really doubt that anyone here have yet real infos about a possible new Firmware-release from NEC for the 1300a, especially about the (extended/better) media support...
OK, this is my 1000st post in this forum and I do quit now forever.

Hi.
thanks for the gret firmwares, but now my Memorx 2x discs don't work.
It is RitekG01, I can't give you the media id because I can not run advdinfo on my computer, it just crashes. can you please add this media again. Or remove one of the media id in the list and add this one.
Thanks a million...

Yes it's always possible to update with a newer version (also those from NEC)

Then try dvdinfo ( http://nicsoft.com.au/dvdinfo.html) According to dvdrhelp.com Memorex 2x = PRODISCG02. As well RitekG01 as PRODISCG02 should be supported by the f/w.
I really need the media code in order to get them working!

I need 3 lines in order to completely check it! Could you try it again? Sometimes dvdinfo only gives 2 lines!

Could you please post the first 3 lines? I need them in order to implement support! If dvdinfo just gives 2 lines, open your tray remove the medium, and close it again. Maybe restart dvdinfo and try again!
