Maybe you could also add Verbatim dvd-r 2x to your "to do list". Thought I'd be safe buying them...but "Illegal medum".
I hate Nec.

Sorry no writing method for this one in the current firmware I could replace some other writing method, but the chance that it will work is very very very small

I made a second version containing some optimizations.
I also removed a DVD Video-rip lock. (Big thanks to a friend that doesn't want to have his name here for the tip). I didn't check this myself yet, so please post your experiences!
I'd also like to thank Etna for his support and checksum tool.
For the people I've sent a special adjusted f/w by mail:
This firmware was specially adjusted for your situation. When you will put this firmware it might not work with your 'specific' media!
For the people that would like to try:
[edit]
Link removed, newer version should fix problems
[/edit]
Please post your experiences!

Ok, here goes nothing.
So this is the ADVDInfo 0D - Recording Management Area Data of the Big Pocket's own white 4x Speed DVD-R.
00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52 00 02 86 0D 13 .B...@....R.....

45 43 48 00 05 88 80 00 00 00 01 00 06 08 0F 11 ECH.............
87 78 80 00 07 88 80 00 00 00 00 00 08 05 16 0D .X..............
0F 0B 0B 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
I didn't know which "option" should I choose from ADVD, that seemed the one, because of the text-part (LONGTE..)
So Herrie, is there anything you could do for these medias?

Hehe, now its back to 'íllegal medium'
A quick test of the ripping hack: i dont see a x2 max ripping for dvd-video anymore, so it seems to work
-edit- The ripping hack works. Speed is x3 at the beginning of the disc and rises upto x8 at the end

rapsac wrote: I tried the hacked firmware with a red-top Princo(datawrite 4x). It does recognize it now and allows me to burn it at 2x but the result is a coaster! It only verifies upto 40%, all the rest is junk. When looking at the dvd you can see a light area in the center and a dark area on the outside. I guess the write strategy is no good for it.
Could this be the reason for Princo being banned in the firmware? NEC still not having a working write strategy and for that reason making it completely impossible to burn them until they manage to make the write strategy work fully?
After all, it is a lot better having some people being [*oops*] that some medias won't work, than having the same people being homicidaly furious that half of their 400 gig backup won't work...

I saw your post for the hacked firmware, and just happen to have 100 4x red princo disk i use as paper weights at the mo.
Well i followed your instructions and booted of a floopy into dos and run the nec1300a exe with the switches. In my case
nec1300a -pri -mas -out oldrom.bin -flash 1300-105h.bin
my hard drives are on the raid ports, and it say unable to flash drive only for use with nec 1100, Iam probally doing something stupid,
But can u suggest something, cause id really like to use those disks,
Ive got a feeling it might have something to do with the raid, but not sure
thanks in advance

Yup, you're right Herrie!
I re-flashed with your FIRST hacked firmware and my 'Bulkpaq Orange Top DVD-R gen 4' will now burn at 2x.
I'll test the burned disk to see if data is O.K. and post again later...
Good luck with the V3 firmware fix!
RESPECT!!!

This is the most common non-supported media for the nec 1300 beside the media with Princo-IDs.
