NEC officials told me today that the firmware is coming in 6-8 weeks.
Could you give me a URL where to download this ADVDinfo, and perhaps even help me extracting the media code. Im just going to give you false information, unless there's a clear step-2-step help in ADVDinfo.
...so anyone of us won't have to try Google...

Quote: Great work Herrie! I´ve tried your firmware and it seems to work perfect (not considering it only writes at 2x speed on 4x discs). A new firmware is what I´ve been waiting for ever since I bought 50 Princo 4x discs not knowing that they didn´t work on the NEC-1300. Allthough I´ve been in contact with NEC several times I have yet to get an answer to my questions about a firmware upgrade. Shame on you NEC! voelser: The .exe file needs some parameters to run. - It needs to know if your burner is on the primary or secondary IDE - It needs to know if it´s strapped to master or slave - It´s optional to specify a backup copy of your current firmware - It needs to know what file to flash with e.g nec1300a -sec -mas -out old105rom.bin -flash 1300-105h.bin There shouldn´t be a problem to go back to your previous firmware if you´d want to do that. Big Thank You Herrie! Hope you solve the 2x - 4x puzzle! Quote: i have tryed all the above but it is unable to open 1300-105h.bin.i dont know what 2 do and would be greatful for ur help.i think this is realy cool what ur doing "f**k the corprate bast**ds" who do they think they are monoplising the media that can be used in a personal drive.i think that should be up to us well thanks alot and hope 2 hear back with ne help

Is it possible to make this media burn at 2x instead of 1x ?
00 42 00 00 01 40 D6 FD 9E D8 20 00 02 0A 06 07 .B...@.... .....
88 66 09 00 03 52 49 54 45 4B 30 00 04 30 30 56 .F...RITEK0..00V
31 31 41 00 05 00 88 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 11A.............
Another Q:
Do you search for the media typ ID in the firmware to find the location where the burning info is ?.. in this case.. is that
88 66 09 00 03 52 49 54 45 4B 30 00 04 30 = .F...RITEK0..0
Thanks all involved for widen the 1300 firmware hacking proj.

If you enable writing for the following media-types the problems of the most ND-1300A-owners would be solved, I think:
Princo (4x), DDD DVDR, NANYA P18 (complete IDs can be found on my list)
The most people who send infos about non-working discs to me for my list have complaints about discs with those IDs.

Newbie strikes again!
Im trying to get the media code for Big Pocket's white 4x Speed DVD-R, since I've 150x these for paper weights atm. When running ADVDInfo it dares to whine about ASPI32.DLL (make sure ASPI is installed for WIN32).
Where can I get that, where should I put it? winnt\system32?
OS is W2K.
Another question.
I've 50x Datawrites red 4x Speed DVD-R, these are Princo-medias, right?
So I should try the hack, and those should work, at least on 2x speed, after that?
How do I backup the old firmware? And how do I install the new one. Im not sure how to boot W2K in to DOS or do I just need a system formatted disk with the firmware-flash?
Step-by-step is the way to go. No one is a master without training.

You can find ASPI at the URL below: http://download.adaptec.com/software_pc ... v472a2.exe
The procedure for flashing and backup is already described in this thread!
You can use a bootdisk with firmware in order to flash! Datawrite RED 4x should burn @2x with the hacked f/w!

This is awesome work!
I have a suspicion that the floodgates for media requests will now open and with that in mind, I'm going to get in first!
The Samsung BeAll media is not currently recognised - this should happily record at 2x (and is, by the way, great media, too)...
I'd love to get this media recognised. I'm happy to try myself, but fear I could end up killing my NEC1300 in the process.
Here's the header:
00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 50 00 02 57 0E 14 .B...@....P..W..
87 88 80 00 03 42 65 41 6C 6C 20 00 04 47 30 30 .....BEALL ..G00
30 30 31 00 05 88 80 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 001.............
Help would clearly be appreciated.
Update: I've looked at the firmware with a hex editor, and, frankly, it was too scary. Lots of BeAll references in there, but this disk is not recognised.

Hi @All
I've looked at the firmware too; is it possible that the current cracked firmware only changes the media id so the drive doesn't recognise the princo's anymore? I think it will default to x2 write speed in that case (does so with Nashua dvd-r's that i doubt it recognizes).
All known media (to the drive) that have no write strategies or are flagged as 'bad' will produce an invalid media error. (eg princo's)
If this is the case then i guess NEC has some serious money in Ritek/Verbatim
I tried the hacked firmware with a red-top Princo(datawrite 4x). It does recognize it now and allows me to burn it at 2x but the result is a coaster!
It only verifies upto 40%, all the rest is junk. When looking at the dvd you can see a light area in the center and a dark area on the outside. I guess the write strategy is no good for it.
btw, how do you calculate the checksum for the hacked firmware? I'd like to experiment myself but i need a good checksum after patching.

Here is the tool to calculate the checksums.
The tools shows the actual (in the file) and the computet checksum of each block.
the first block is 492KB and the second is 128KB
at the end of each block is the checksum followed by "K110" stored.
I hope this help

Thank you for your help, but it seems that my stupid pcstore sent me princos too instead of intenso. They have no label and are marked with hand 4x Intenso.
Or they have both the same id.
Anyway they are working now just fine with your firmware too.
Thx again

No media ID has been changed by me. I only adjusted the 50 00, 50 01, 52 00 into 52 01. All discs that are in the firmware should be recognised now. I had no problems with my Princo 4x, but there are various Princo 4x. It could be that the Red Datawrite 4x have another Princo Media ID then the ones I use!
I verified my DVD's and no probs at all With the help of some other members I was able to locate the writing strategies. I need to see if there's some kind of a pattern...

Second - ADVDinfo - i need firmware for exactly 2 or 3 disks especially but what exactly to take from ADVDinfo ?

Just received 50 of these "silver top / purple bottom" discs from yesbuy.net for $65. Any idea how to get these to work with my 1300?

THATS always the problem with Intenso dvd media!
I bought them a few times (DVD-R & DVD+R), and they always had another media-ID, e.g. Prodisc, TDK, Princo, "(empty)" ...
So, you cannot be sure what media you really get when yo buy Intenso-media (unless you check out the ID).

Hi there!
I'm also new to the NEC 1300 (got it yesterday) - and the first I recognized were illegal-media errors with Nero...
Oh, well... I tried to get "ADVDInfo" running - and tested it with some media - here are the results of some of them which won't work with my dvd-writer:
--
SONY DVD-R (4.7 GB / DMR47A)

Hope somebody could insert this in some FW *hehe*
So long.
