Hi Guys,

I bought Toshiba laptop (DynaBook Model = A2/580PMC) a year and half ago from Japan (already out of warranty). It has MATSHITA UJDA710 CDWriter/DVD Combo. Since I bought it, I could never burn a CD, It always stoped half way. I never bothered because I had an external CD-Burner.

PROBLEM: Recently I have realized it has STOPED reading any CD-R and CD-WR. BUT It has NO PROBLEM reading normal DVD and CD ROMs.

I ran the CDInfo and got the follwoing info:

VENDOR : MATSHITA
MODEL : UJDA710
REVISION : 1.00
VENDOR SPECIFIC : 102080KME11260238801
INTERFACE : ATAPI
RPC2 SCHEME : YES
STATUS : Set
USER CHANGES : 4
VENDOR CHANGES : 5
CURRENT REGION : 2
CAN READ CDR : YES
CAN READ CDRW : YES
CAN READ CDRM2 : YES
CAN WRITE CDR : YES
CAN WRITE CDRW : YES
CAN READ DVD-ROM : YES
CAN READ DVD-R : YES
CAN READ DVD-RAM : NO
CAN WRITE DVD-R : NO
CAN WRITE DVD-RAM : NO
MAX CDR READ SPEED : 24
MAX CDR WRITE SPEED: 8

Then I used UJDA 7xx RPC-1 autopatcher (mpatch v1.12 - 2003.01.31) to patch the firmware. I followed all the instruction provided for this autopatcher. At the end I got the following results.

Code:
ATAPI DVD-ROM & CD-R/RW Program Loader. Version 2.54
(C)Copyright 1995-2001 KYUSHU MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC CO.,LTD.

The computer just hung there and did nothing. Autopatcher did not change anything. F.Y.I. I am using Windows Me on this laptop.

A prompt fix would be highly appriciated.

What would cleaning the lense do in my case?

1. Let me run the autopatcher? So that I can burn CDs with it and play RegionFree DVDs OR
2. It will start reading CD-R and CD-WR?
3. How shall I clean the lense?

Cheers

Slightly moisten a soft cloth like a handkerchief with rubbing alcohol and gently wipe the lense off. The autopatcher will not help your drive to read any kind of media that it doesn't now, it only patches the drive to region free. I can't help you with that...

Problem is still there:

I need to know why it does not burn the CDs. The manufacture (Toshiba) has provided Adaptec Easy CD Creator version 4.0 with the laptop.

Do I need to run some different software to burn CDs?

Does anyone else has the same problem? If so then what did work for you?

And why did the Autopatcher v1.12 did not work on my machine. What if I also want my Drive to be RegionFree. Which firmware patch should I apply for Revision 1.00.

Cheers

The autopatcher is used in real DOS for one thing. It helps you to take your current firmware put of the drive, patch it, then flash it back onto your drive. This prevents the possibility of you flashing with a firmware that would change your drive in such a way that it would no longer work in your notebook.

UJDA 710 firmwares are specific, every drive version is different, thats also apply to the firmware. So, you cant just flash your UJDA with different firmware, instead, you should stick with your current firmware.
If you want, you can try the autopatcher to make your drive region free.

Cheers,..
