i just bough a Buslink burner from this
http://www.microcenter.com/single_produ ... 661#rebate
when i received it, i found out the burner looks like a no-frill, no-name one. there was not any number, any letter, any brand be carved or printed on the burner, it looks like a "plain" burner, totally plain. except the stamp on the back appeared like this:

Image

so, think it s Aopen's rebagged burner
the firmware version on my burner now is 1.04. i ve got to Aopen website to download the firmware flashing propgram 1.05
http://club.aopen.com.tw/downloads/defa ... 32&Go.y=10

Image

ok, but when i try to patch the firmware on , it popup an error like this:

Image

the i restart the flashing program, and it appeared like this:

Image

---->my burner's name turned to a "RICOH firmwareloader 2.0.99" 8O 8O 8O
and after that, the burner couldnt work (eject button couldnot work too) until i restart the computer. please some one help me flash the firmware on this burner, thanks

oh, and i have one more question, i m using nero. in nero, with this burner i could burn only with these default speeds:
4x 8x 12x 16x 24x 32x 40x 52x

is there any way for me to adjust the speed to make it more flexible, like burning at 20x or 44x or 36x... something like that? please help me, thanks

It's a shot in the dark, but try using the Windows Flasher from this zip along with the binary that you want to flash with.
If that fails, then try using the DOS flasher from this update to flash your drive with the firmware from the other update... Also try flashing after the nqame has been changed to Ricoh Firmwareloader...

It seems you have an unbranded ricoh MP7520a.
The solution is to flash with this theArtec (Ultima) WRR-52X 1.16 fw.you'll find it in the download section

doesnt work either. it poped up the same error, but it didnt change my burner's name to Ricoh firmwareloader, my burner still works well after the unsuccessful flashing without having to restart the computer

Have you tried flashing after the name was changed to FirmwareLoader 2?

I just got one from Staples. It's Buslink and AOpen 5224 is inside. There is no any brand when the computer detect it. Just say like 52x24x52x with firmware 1.04.

So, I did flash using the tool that "dhc014" suggested. (DOS Flash Tool) It works without any problem. Now, the firmware become 1.05 and show as AOpen too.

npt, yes, the one I have is exactly the same with the picture that you have showed. Also, it costs $69.94 at Staples but with $50 mail in rebate. So, it would be $19.94 after rebate.

Today, I also checked at Bestbuy for Buslink 48X and found that it's AOpen too. Have no idea why there is no Lite-On anymore. I've tried to check for a few weeks before with Cendyne, Verbatim. All of them are not LiteOn inside anymore. What they have are either Benq, Optorite or BTC.

BTW, I'm not Vietnamese or Chinese but Thai :)

man, if you told me earlier, you would save $10 instantly with the coupon code 30007 when order online that burner at staples.com. you could return that burner to them and use the coupon to order online to save a couple bucks if you want    :D :D :D
anyways, anyone who wannna get that burner just remember to use this coupon when you order online at Staples.com

i also bought the 52x24x52x buslink cdrw drive at staples (the special of $19 after rebate)

mine was a liteon

my staples had about 8 drives on display, only 2 of them said "smart burn" (liteon)... all the rest said "just link" on the box

it was an easy choice :) i had to go for the liteon.

just for your info the boxes are identical, even the UPC # was the same... the only difference was where on the front of the box some said "smartburn" the others said "justlink"

hey, did you say they put Aopen and liteon together for us to choose? hm, the problem is if you order online, you cant be sure that you could choose the liteon one. and how about the buffer memory on the liteon drive? is it 128kb? the Aopen got 2 MB.

No CD-RW drive would have a 128KB buffer! The Lite-ON has a 2MB buffer.

It's probably just wrong information that spread like a wildfire. Look at the official AOpen product page here. What does Nero InfoTool Report the buffer size as? The Buslink site only mentions a model with SmartBurn, so that is the Lite-ON model link. They list no buffer size probably because it varies with the drive that they package.

Anybody has the original firmware for buslink 52x24x52. I messed up the drive and got a dead drive. I'm trying to find the original firmware and see if it can flash. Thanks.
Sam.

The only way to get the original firmware is to read it directly from the chip. You should try to recover it using the AOpen firmware.
