Does anyone know of RPC-1 firmware above SS07 that actually works, for Samsung SD-612S DVD-ROM drive? Firmware revision SS07 and lower are really buggy! :(

Hi ONi What firmware version are you using? I'm using the SS07 (patched) but it's really bugged (an not UDMA). Some movies stops at some part... I think on the layer(?) transition. :( Bye!

Yes, the problem occurs most frequently around the layer transition as you say. Its a known problem with a very large number of SD-612's. Ive tried almost every firmware I can get my hands on with my drive in vane. Some firmware versions (ss11u in my case) seem to be particularly bad, preventing me from even playing some DVD's at all, while other DVD's work fine with it. SS07 works better than most, tho many disks choke at random points on the disk, and very often at the layer change. Sumsung sadly seem to be very quiet about all this. tbh it seems like they are just very dodgy bad drives. :( Id be interested however, to hear how other ppl have got on... David

Sadly there isnt much u can do except take it back and hope u get a cash refund. Ive tried almost everything I can think of, and Ive spoken to many other ppl about it, and no1 seems to have a solution to the problem. Just out of interest tho, what motherboards are ppl using with these drives? David

[/quote]I'm using the SS11 UDMA version, RPC-2! :( I had the same kinda problems with SS07 (patched) as your having ... Edit: I used to have a Toshiba SD-M1212 with 1r22 firmware RPC-1, it rocket until it mysteriously died. [Edited on 2/9/2001 by ONi]
