Following G1zm0's discovery about the 2 versions of the DRVLOADC.exe flashing program, I've rebuilt ALL the UJDA downloads to create bootable floppies with the proper version of the flash tool.

Therefore, some all the old links might no longer work.

Anyway, here's the list I currently have on the server. I'll try to post master/slave info for these firmwares too, but I have to pick that back from various posts.

[I would advise anybody who has no immediate need to flash their drives TO WAIT, as I'm working on a better solution]

UJDA 710

o U710x104_SN.exe
rev. 1.04 for SN (Sony) OEM's (SECONDARY MASTER)

o U710x104_TT.exe
rev. 1.04 for TT (Toshiba) OEM's (SECONDARY MASTER)
Reported to work for:
- Fujitsu Laptops

o U710x106_CP.exe
rev. 1.06 for CP (Compaq) OEM's (SECONDARY MASTER)

o U710x151_MT.exe
rev. 1.51 for MT (????) OEM's (PRIMARY SLAVE)

UJDA 720

o U720x103_BM.exe
rev. 1.03 for BM (IBM) OEM's (SECONDARY MASTER)
Reported to work for:
- IBM ThinkPads
- Toshiba Laptops
- HP Laptops
- Sony Laptops

UJDA 730

Still to come...

UJDA 740

Still to come...

Hi Nil,
I Have an FMV-BIBLO NE7/850H Fujitsu with version firmware 1.03 (Japanese computer)
I have patched with the firmware 1.04 RPC1 for TT.
And now, it's Ok for all.I don't see problems for this moment.
Thanks for all.
:)

As I wrote on other forum, your patch works on UJDA720 of Sony desktop W101(Japan Version). Thanks a lot!

>NIL: I'd be interested to know what you found out about these different flasher programs. Is it dependent on the hardware revision for the UJDA 710 or is one intended for the 710 and the other for the 720? I hope the latter as that should mean hardware revisions don't enter the equation for the 710!

BTW, to save you some time, I found that all UJDA710 firmwares were Master except for 1.51 Slave

So, are you saying that the patched version 1.51 is the only fw patch that could set my drive as Secondary Slave :?: (I need to use the patched version 1.51, because my drive is UJDA 710 version 1.50). I can download my firmare and send it to Nil... I guess my firmware is set as Secondary Master.

Now I am totally confused!!! 8O

I want my region free DVD!!!

That is what I found when testing

Not necessarily. Is there a reason you can't downgrade to 1.0x? The only evidence against we have seen so far is when Wolfy flashed from 1.50 to 1.06 and lost his CD support. But 1.06 has been dodgy for others too.

Well you can make those 3 DRV0-X.DMP files but are they any use to >NIL:? (any comment >NIL:? :) )

Well, the way I see it you have 3 choices

1) Flash 1.51 and your drive will (probably) become slave. >NIL: will hopefully be looking at these issues soon, so it's up to you if the inconvenience of having slave drive until then outweighs the inconvenience of having an RPC-2 drive for the same period. This will depend on how many different region disks you own and how often you watch them on your laptop vs how often you need to boot from CD.

2) Flash 1.08 and your drive (should) stay as master. You might suffer some CD/CD-R/CD-RW issues but can always reflash to 1.51 if this happens

3) Be patient and wait until >NIL: can look at the master/slave issues and find someone to test them.

You pays yer money and you takes yer choice :)

Sssssssssh!!! ;)

G1zm0, to answer your question, did you ever wonder where those non official UJDA RPC-1 firmwares came from? Well, now you know. :D

Of course I see you coming... 8) Well, let's say that I'm currently investigating an obvious new approach that would require me to do nothing at all! (and not give a damn about the IDE settings at the same time) :P When I tell you that I am lazy!!
This might take a little more time though, but if I succeed, it should make a lot of people very happy!

Well, I had my suspicions :D

Heh heh! I think I know what you have in mind, and that would be very cool indeed! 8) But "mum's the word"

Lots of people seem to have master slave problems after flashing in a new firmware. I belive you can force a laptop drive to switch its master/slave staus in hardware using pin 47 of the 50 pin JAE KX15-50KLD connector, which is widely used on laptop drive mechanisms.

The JAE connector I'm referring can be seen if you scroll down this page. I'm sure you'll recongise it.
http://www.abgcomputers.nl/CD-ROM/Teac_ ... -speed_IDE

I've seen JAE connector pinouts for a few different laptop drives, and
every one I've seen shows that grounding pin 47 (pins 45 & 48 are both
gnd) will force a master/slave switch.

Also see this article
http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/PB_G3/oem_co ... blems.html

I can't guarantee that every laptop drive will do this, or how it will work for drives that don't use the JAE connector, but hey - it's probably worth a try.

A typical JAE pinout is listed for this drive here
http://support.ap.dell.com/docs/storage ... onnect.htm

Note that this drive is pictured with an adapter board attached to convert the sub-miniature JAE notebook connector to standard desktop IDE, Power and audio connectors, but the pinout listed at the bottom is typical for the 50 pin JAE connector.

grumio.

As long as the flasing processes are reversible, I'm willing to beta test your firmware... :)

If everything goes well, it will be much more reversible than before, but then I'd be surprised if flashing back was really needed... ;)

However, I have to remind you all that I'm also busy with the new firmwares for the Pioneer DVR-105 and Pioneer DVD-119. Still I try to stick with next week for a beta solution.

I don't mean that I want to flash my drive back to RPC-2, but I worried about the unsuccessful flashing that can PERMANENTLY damage my dvd drive. (as it can happen when you flash pc bios or mobile phone firmware).

But for my limit knowledge, bad flashing of dvd drive is not as serious as unsuccessful flashing of PC BIOS because it usually can be fixed by flashing it again with the correct version of firmware.

:p

Hey, I'm not saying that I will remove the option to flash back! Actually, if everything goes well, it will be a lot more easy than before to flash your drive back to the original firmware.

I'm just saying that, hopefully, the new solution will work so well that nobody will ever find the need to flash their drive back.

Hi all! This is SoNiX from Brazil. I own a toshiba 5005-s504. Got the RPC-1 patched firmware for it here(U710x104_TT). Rebooted with the disk on the FD. Update with the command (drvloadc /m /o /u ttx104.710). The /sm didn't work for me. Waited till it's done. Somehow I noticed that it locked in the end of the process, since it gave me a message that it was all done. I rebooted manualy (ctr+alt+del). The system gave me a blue screen before the toshiba logo appears (weird). Windows loaded and my drive was gone. Tried to flash again, no success. :( Anyone can help me? I mean, is there a software solution for my case besides spending some cash in a new drive?

I'm completely lost...

New scene. Now the drive is only detected in Win XP after a suspend/wake up process. Any way to flash it within windows?

Will the beta testers need to have an untouched RPC-2 firmware or will I be able to use my pre-flash dump of my Toshiba 1.04? I'm willing to beta test if I can coz I want CD-RW capability back!

As the subject says it all...
How can I dump those UJDA710 firmware(s) ? I mean, drvload can do it or I must use another program? If I can use drvload, what are the flags I neeed to use?

thnx
Peace out

hey, this may be a dumb question but anywho. I've tried to load the U710x104_SN.exe on my Sony OEM laptop with a 710. Whenever i boot with the floppy and type the command drvloadc /sm snx108.710 with or without the /o /u, the flash loader comes up, shows the initial 2 lines and sits.... how long am I supposed to wait for it to do something ? I'd like to test this firmware if possible, but will wait if need be.

Thanx

I always say the only dumb questions are the ones you DON'T ask :)

I had the same. Try using /M instead. That worked for me with secondary master 710.

cheers mates!

I've got the flash installed and all seems to be well. I'm guessing that I've lost CD-RW capability, but I'm not too worried.

Nice one >NIL: and G1zm0
