Do I have an engineering sample, or have I been fooled into a sneaky sneaky china copy? (Please see below of the DVRFlash output)
The firmware is set suspiciously at revision 0.46 and DVRFlash recognising the drive, however noting an incompatibility.
The Physical drive has the markings of the BD logo and lightscribe on the bezel, and official Pioneer sticker markings on case.
It burns Blu-Ray Ritek BD-RW single layer discs fine, and is only of the BDs what I have been able to test. It burns DVDs and CDs fine. However I may have had one or two disc read cycle jams.
That is why I wanted to flash firmware for disc read improvements. However I have tried many flavours of either the Pioneer official flashers, the next available consecutive firmware (ie revision 1.10) etc.

I have no experience in the Lightscribe division, and have attempted to install the little drivers and software for it, having the software detecting no drive?

Any light on this, hopefully being a unique topic?

The 203 is a little bit old now, should be Made in Japan anyway - so how do you come to such ideas???
You should know where you have bought the drive too.

It is an old drive, yes. Good point.
I haven't had a chance to look at labeling/markings recently, but you're right, I did do an online purchase, and after some deep searching, I realised that it is from china.

Prices for BD drives have come down, however at the time I paid around the AU$250 mark for it. Receipt for payment was on 2nd of November.

I come to such ideas, chef, as when you see a brand, let's say Giorgio Armani, you see it in the shops and you're sensationalised by the experience of the brand and you hear about its greatness, you want to buy it, however sometimes you can't afford it at the time. So here comes a classic "Sunday market foreigner" with his/her George Armani brand clothing, selling it for an affordable price. You can physically look at the quality and from experience, you look at the tag and it says Made in China. So from this, you begin to start making your own conclusions.

I could probably be wrong in regards to my own conclusion, as I am always speculative.

We would be making some progress if someone would know of and have the balls to post up some info about the revision of this firmware.

I understand what you mean, agree with you.

I think that must be an engineering sample because of the firmware it hosts, because of "Kernel version : 0000" and maybe even because of the fact that this drive is MIC.

What exactly happened when trying to update via the official flashers/packages?
Could you try again in win32 environment or compatibility mode?
Code:
Changes in v2.7.6

New features:
- BDR 203 support
- BDR 205 support

Current release has Win32 binaries only.
