Can someone help me reset to original? (to delete region-free patch from it) I think so, this belongs to this topic. (After all started out here at all.)
Thanks for help!

When you first use MatshitaWinDump it will create two files for you, something like in this example:

Code:
converted firmware to flashable file MATSHITADVD-RAM_UJ-850S_1.05.dat
converted RPC1 firmware to flashable file MATSHITADVD-RAM_UJ-850S_1.05_RPC1.dat

The first file is the ORIGINAL UNTOUCHED firmware dumped from your drive and the second file which ends in RPC1 is the REGION FREE patched firmware.

Therefore, you should still have the original firmware available, and you should be able to flash that file back easily using MatshitaWinFlash. Once you flash that file back you will have your original firmware restored and the drive will be RPC2 again, just like it was before you patched it.

I haven't the original firmware, because I deleted it accidentally from my computer. Therefore I need your help!

I currently have the Matshita DVD +RW UJ8A2 drive which is RPC-2. I am runing a Dell Lattitude Laptop E6420. I am trying to run software which says my drive is region locked and I can't seem to find the necessary firmware for this specific model and the MatshitaWindump tool does not show support for my drive so I didn't want to try to use it.

Anyone have any ideas? #-o

Yes ... USE IT and may the force be with you!

The MatshitaWinDump tool doesn't involve any risks and therefore cannot break your drive in any way, it simply reads the firmware from your drive and then dumps it and creates a second RPC1 patched firmware. If the utility creates the RPC1 file, then you know that the utility works with your drive, otherwise it will simply not create this file. Besides, if you look a bit more closely in this and the MAC thread you will see that some people have already successfully patched the UJ8A2 series, so we know that the utilities work OK with these drives.

It is the MatshitaWinFlash (which is a separate program as you know) which actually flashes the RPC1 firmware to your drive, so this is the only risky part of the process.

please can someone help me.

I have downloaded the dump and flash files and successfully dumped. when i drag the dat file over the flash bat file as per the instructions and enter the drive letter, I get an error message that ends by saying that access is denied.

i have tried several downloads of the flash file to make sure i have not used a corrupted file but i keep getting the same error message.

the drive is a uj862a in a fujitsu S6420 with 32 bit win7

Hi guys

I've been reading the Mac version of this thread as I'm interested in flashing a UJ-898 HE13 drive. I haven't seen any rpc1 zip files for download and I'm not sure that the Mac tools for dump and patch are as robust as the Windows version.

Can I ask if the tools listed on page 1 of this thread for Windows can be run on a Mac that is running Parallels?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi

Firstly, thanks for the excellent resource... another example of communities helping each other out on the web!

I have read pretty much everything on this topic, and have hit a wall... my drive is, wait for it, the infamous MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ890AS 1.00!

I understand this drive is proving a problem. I have tried everything, every possible approach suggested here, even using miniXP and trying to dump from there. I always have the same message, "error during attempt to read memory from device".

Has any new WinDump fix appeared yet for this drive? Or has anyone actually managed to get a .dat file out of one of these drives they could share for flashing? Or... is it time to just go out an buy a new drive??

Again, thanks for all the help!

It's been a while since anyone enquired whether there is support for the Matshitsa BD drives... do I still have to wait patiently?

I have MATSHITA BD-MLT UJ240ES on a Toshiba Qosmio X500/01T running Windows 7.

Thanks for any updates ....

This thread covers dvd writers - bd drives is a complete other thing.

I also have a Toshiba laptop with a matshita uj890as drive and I've seen all the posts about problems upgrading the firmware for the drive. I also tried to dump the firmware and got the same error code. However, another forum gave me a link for a new firmware patch on an Asus machine. (http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?S ... e&p=3&os=8) My question is that if I try to update a DVD drive on a Toshiba using the firmware for the same DVD drive but from an Asus machine, is it likely to give me problems?

If such a thing is possible, then I would later try to patch the drive again with the MatshitaWinDump program......

Of course that cannot work!

hi guys, i have a sony vgn-z690 laptop with a matshita dvd-ram uj862as running win vista 64 that came with it. i ran the dump and flash seemingly with no problems. i'm trying to play a region 3 dvd. dvd region killer didn't work for me. it installed but nothing came up when i tried to run it. i suspect it is because i'm on 64bit? anyways, i've tried other software like dvd43, dvdfab passkey, and anydvd to no avail. the drive just keeps spinning the dvd every few seconds...am i doing something wrong? no errors on either dump or flash.

so i figured out by using discinfo that the drive region status was not locked. i'm assuming that means the region hasn't been set. i tried this earlier on the older version of discinfo but it didn't work. then i just tried the 1.7 beta version and it ran fine...i couldn't figure out how to set the region. there was no region tab in the properties of the drive when there was pre flash. i tried dvd decrypter to force a region but all the selections of regions were greyed out (so i couldn't select any). so if someone can help me figure this out it would be greatly appreciated!

You have not even read our FAQ or the first post in this thread so it seems!!!

I already underlined whats important. AnyDVD cannot work with Matshita drives, never will with 98% of them.

i dont wanna sound like i'm not putting effort into reading or anything cuz i did look over the first page again and i'm not sure which things you newly underlined...if it's too frustrating to deal with it's cool, but i'd feel so much better if i could freely change the region to watch this one dvd. with 4 region changes, i guess i could always switch the region over and rip the dvd and switch back. i just thought i did everything step by step and it almost went smoothly. dunno where i went wrong. well thanks for the input already and anything extra if you'd like to add.

What does Discinfo report about your drive?

Because its only this one DVD, you could rip and burn it with another drive or another computer, then it would be also regioncode free.

The flash worked as it should of, as you can see from the info. no lock detected. You are running discinfo without any region blocking software running, yes?. The issue now is to bypass any software limitations.

@foursquaregoof

Could you please post a copy of that firmware dump for us (just upload the two original/RPC1 files to a free host service and post the link)? Thanks!
