I'm a newbie so would appreciate any advice. Have got a new laptop - a Sony Vaio VPCSE15FG running a Matshita DVD-RAM U8A2AS. I want to back up some DVDs using "Any DVD" and "DVD Clone 2" (both published by Slysoft). I am repeatedly getting error messages from Any DVD that it has failed to read the DVD. It provides four reasons two of which are...

Quote:
Your drive is a region locked RPC2 drive which does not allow reading of scrambled sectors from a different region and you try to read a DVD from a different region. Known drives having this probem are...Matchita/Panasonic DVD readers and writers. You can try to find RCP1 patched firmware at http://rcp1.com

Your drive is a RCP2 drive that has not yet been assigned a region. Try to assign one, or try to find RCP1 patched firmware at http://rcp1.com

The other reasons provided are media related and I have discounted these as the problem as I have tested several different DVDs, all with the same result, and have been able to back them up on another computer.

I haven't been able to locate any of the said "RCP1 patched firmware".

Can anyone assist? Cheers.

OK, first this one: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=38756 which leads you to that because its a Matshita drive: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=46116
And then LBNL: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=46246

Another possible issue with your DVDs could be that they come with newer copy protections AnyDVD or any other "dvd ripper" cannot deal with it yet.
