I have a Philips DVP642/37 DVD player. I got a firmware download for it. There is the problem. I havent the least idea how to install it . Would someone please help me? I can't find anything in the forum or on the internet. ....Thanks
I'm having a similar issue with my Philips DVP642/37 DVD Player...;
only I need to figure out what 800 number I need to call since my DVD Player was hacked/modified by a third party to make it RPC1/Region Free so therefore I need a newer RPC1 specific firmware for the hacked version of the DVD Player... It plays most DVDs but it has trouble playing certain Dual Layer DVDs like my AniMusic 2 DVD which works just fine on my HP laptop...

_chef_: No: thankfully: I'm not... I already tried visiting the third party vendor's site who sold me the hacked Philips DVP642/37 & they hadn't posted any updates to the support section of their site... ): I did however look inside the DVD Player & the main chip on the motherboard was a ESS Technology ES6698FF G195...; another site I visited said that the regular retail version of the DVD Player comes in four different versions: E, S, M & that units made after October of 2006 had completely different motherboards with different chips on them & all four different types use very different firmwares too...
Since my DVD Player is also RPC1 it may not even be a Philips DVP642/37 any more...; they made significant enough internal changes based on the forum postings I read that for all I know calling it a Philips DVP642/37 may not be quite correct/inaccurate at best...
