what 1.08 zip file are you refering too? as all the links are official and don't come with a kernel file. On your point, DVRFlash is not file name specific, so you can use whatever name you want. but normally keeping it simple is better. Only the crossflash files in that section can be used with that particular drive. In case you have simply downloaded a kernel and renamed it. it will brick the drive. I take it also you mean 117, not 107 in your postings?

Thanks for your help.
Here is the one I downloaded:
DVR-217L_108
Firmware S17J_1.08

from

Let´s recap.

My drive is a 217D, came with 1.06 firmware.

About a year ago I downloaded 1.07 firmware for a 217L model and patched S0416431.107 with MSCE and got S0416431_speedpatched.107 and applied
DVRFlash -ff G: S0416430.107 S0416431_speedpatched.107

Everything worked fine. So my drive has been crossflashed to a 217L, right?

Now I downloaded 217L firmware 1.08 from:
http://files.rpc1.org/index.php?act=category&id=1806
which includes two files: S0015430.108 and S0015431.108

Applied MSCE to S0015431.108 and got S0015431_speedpatched.108

So I now just need to do DVRFlash -ff G: S0015431_speedpatched.108

Right?

assuming your drive is 217L then you don't need to force flash. just use -f

Ok, thanks.

Yes my drive is now a 217L after I crossflashed it from the original 217D

So I will perform
DVRFlash G: S0015431_speedpatched.108

and report back.

Thanks again

you still need -f in the command line, just not -ff

if its 217L it should flash without the -ff command. if it needs it, then it isn't. put there is no harm to do that, if you want too. normal mode is correct, its when it says in kernel mode, you worry. Was that message displayed when you tried to flash with -f command?

It was a 217D but I crossflashed it to 217L a year ago.

Yes, the message "drive is in normal mode" was displayed when I tried to do
DVRFlash -f G: S0015431_speedpatched.108

not the same then as the drive id and firmware you. It's looking for the kernel file to flash. use the kernel and -ff if you require the flash to go through. The numbering of pioneer drives and abbreviations got very complicated with 116-118 drives.

yes that is the only way you can flash the 1.08, unless you trawl through pioneer looking for the exact match to your's.

of course dvrflash was tested before releasing to the forum. all crossflash tests were fine. If you have doubts, play same as chef suggested.

I know it was tested and I used it many times, including a year ago when I converted this 217D into a 217L.

I don´t understand what chef´s suggestion was, sorry.

And thanks again for your help.

don't do it. just stick with what you have. or try seeing if you can patch an official release. we can only advise. its the user who has to flash it.

You have to remember that using option -ff is for CROSSflashing only.
For normal flashing just use the -f option, not even -vf.

Seems to me that you just want to got from 1.07 to 1.08, and because you already crossflashed to 1.07 (217L) before you wont do that again and put your drive into a risk.
