Hi all,
is there any chance to "unlock" drive so we can write to DVD-RAM media.
I've read that ram option is only disabled.

Thanks for any further info,
Regards
Misko

I know that 898 drive is capable of dvd-ram writing but ( as I've also read somewhere), that function is disabled by Apple.
So, I'm I doing something wrong ?

How can i enable dvd-ram writing?

I have a macbook pro 13", mid 2010, 10.6.6.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. This is info from system profiler with DVD-RAM inside:

Well, I'm using Panasonic 3x DVD-RAM.
But the problem is that system profiler info for my drive doesn't recognizes possibility of dvd-ram writing.

System profiler is dumb, made dumb by apple.

Is it single sided DVD-RAM? What is the EAN, model/type?
Is it out of a cartridge or came it in a jewel/slimcase?

Did you test the DVD-RAM disc in another drive to make sure its not damaged?

Chef, thanks for your effort.

dvd-ram's I have are single sided in jewel case and they all are working flawlessly in my hp pc.

Searching the web I've found that I'm not the only one with this problem :(

Will try to buy other media but......

Apple is known for such "efficiency acts".

I've read posts about HC09 firmwares and also HD10 firmwares, but I'm not sure if a HD10 would be different in capabilities nor if it would work issue free...

You may contact an user who posted about the HD10 and ask about dvd-ram capabilities?!?

Was it ever determined whether or not the UJ-898 HE13 could be re-flashed to use DVD-RAM discs? I've just picked up a box of 4 double-sided (9.4GB!!!) 3x Panasonic DVD-RAM discs for $6, and they aren't recognised by the drive.

If it can, are there any drawbacks or collateral benefits?

DVD-RAM is not that easy to handle, they are split into many categories.

There is 12x DVD-RAM with many newer drives, but you will find media only in japan....
Next down is 5x IIRC, and then 3x and 2x (also 1x), you cannot expect a drive to read and write every revision of DVD-RAM.

And cartridged and doublesided (flipper) is another hard terrain.

Maybe another user of this drive can shed some light into its capabilities concerning DVD-RAM.

Well, here's the media I'm using:

Brand: Panasonic
Product Code: LM-HB94LE
Type: 4 - Disc Removable
Capacity: 9.4GB - Double-Sided
Version: 2.1/Revision 1.0
Speed: 3x

But even if it is determined that the drive is capable of reading and writing this type of DVD-RAM, is patching it to do so trivial? And, could it still be patched for RPC1?
