Don't you mix up read speed with rip speed?!?

Let me rephrase that as removing the RipLock alone can make lengthy Linux installs go a lot faster...

DVD-RAM support of a drive has absolutly nothing to do with RPC patch support.
I do not support a RPC1 patch for LG drives because RPC1 needs additional software and has no advantage to the RPC2 AutoReset feature, which does not need any additional software. I see no reason for the additional support of an RPC1.

Still riplock is not readspeed from my understanding...

What I meant so say it that since DVD-RAM is such a proprietary burnable media format trying to convert drives that support it to RPC1 must be that much trickier than those that don't... I don't how to phrase it _chef_ except that when copying GBs of data during your typical Linux Distro install routines you want all the speed you can get so you can start running & playing with Linux that much faster...

I am trying to flash 1.00-09 fw to an LG WH10LS30 drive. I already flashed with the fw BH10LS30 1.00-09.exe. I'm now trying to flash with the patched firmware and I get to the actual flashing step and I just get this

flasher -d 1 f BH10LS30_1.00-09_patched.bin
Devilsclaw's LG Renesas Drive Utility
cmd_drive: Opening Drive: 1.
drive_inquiry: failed to inquiry drive info

This is what is returned as the drive ID

Drive ID: 1 Name: BD-RE BH10LS30

Any ideas why this isn't working?

EDIT: Found the problem, I had f instead of -f. Copied and pasted from another post. guess I should have just looked at the readme file first.
Now I can get it to flash but the drive doesn't function and the firmware is shown as COR4. I followed the steps exactly.

1. Dumped the drives firmware
2. Downloaded the fw BH10LS30_1.00-09.exe from here.
3. extracted the bin using flasher.
4. patched firmware with MCSE v1.2.0.8
5. flashed new firmware to the drive.
6. rebooted.

After reboot the drive doesn't function at all and the ID is HT-DT-STBD-RE BH10NS30 COR4. I noticed that the model is now BH10NS30 even thought the firmware was supposed to be for BH10LS30. Don't know if this is the issue or not. When I flash from the BH10LS30_1.00-09.exe it flashes to BH10LS30 but when I dump the firmware and load it in MCSE it shows that it is BH10NS30?

Hey, thank you very much for your aplication and as far as I can tell, you should recieve more credit for your work 'cause it's (almost) the only tool that works for Mac Users.

I'm trying to flash my MacBook5,2 with a DVD LG GS22N.

I used the flasher -D and I used to get this info, but after i flash the unit with the steps mentioned in the Readme.txt (get the ID, dump firmware, flash unit with the firmware) and also in this forum thread I started getting Name: DVDRW GS21N and the DVD doesn't let any DVD to come in: what I'm trying to say it's that I put the DVD in the hole but it doesn't come in anymore (and before the process I could insert a DVD without any problem).

So my question is what should I do to make my DVD work again, because right now the DVD Info X tool says I have a DVDRW GS21N COR7 RPC-1 (region free) unit but it doesn't "takes" the DVD inside the MacBook, no matter how "hard" I push the DVD inside.

I'll be very greatful if you could help me with this.

Flash again, then power down completely.

"COR*" means the drive is in failsafe mode.

Hi,

I tried to flash my drive (GS23N SB03) with the newest firmware (11). The flashing procedure seems to be successfull, but after turning off my macbook and turn on again, the firmware is still SB03 instead of SB11...
A firmware verify fails...

Anybody here can help me with this issue?

Thanks ahead

have you ripped the firmware from the windows flasher, and then used the utiiity to flash the main firmware. If you have any issues. post full details of the error you are getting.

I did the following:
Quote:
./flasher -D
Devilsclaw's LG Renesas Drive Utility
AVAILABLE DRIVES AND IDs:
Drive ID: 1 Name: DVDRW GS23N

Extract the firmware...
Quote:
./flasher -r /Users/robin/Downloads/GS23N_SB11-00.exe

Flash the firmware to the drive...
Quote:
./flasher -d 1 -f MAIN_GS23N_SB11-00.exe.bin

read the initial post on what the correct syntax is to input to flash the drive.

Your flash command is wrong. once you have ripped the firmware from the exe. that is it for the exe. you then enter your command as you have, with just main_firmware.bin or whatever you call it

Puma you got the dump and rip mixed up. Buth from what I can tell he did mes up on ripping or flash.

You should always rip from the same directory as the flasher. So yoou need both the exe and flasher in the same directory.

If you ripped in the manner you posted the ripped file would not of been in the same directory as the flasher and that flash would of not worked

[GOOD] ./flasher -d 1 -c core_firmware.bin
[GOOD] ./flasher -d 1 -f MAIN_GS23N_SB11-00.exe.bin
[BAD ] Forgot to power off the system and turn it back on here. not just reboot. verify has to be done after power off.
