I'm probably making some incredibly obvious mistake.

When I launch DVD Info X I see this:

DVD Info X v1.0.2, by xvi (xvi@rpc1.org)

WARNING --- DVD Info X will only list DVD drives that have some WRITE
capabilities, like combos, DVD-R, DVD-RW, etc...
DVD-ROM-only drives will NOT be listed.
WARNING --- You also must eject any inserted medium to list the drive.

and a flashing cursor, and then nothing else.

I'm running a MacBook Pro mid-2010
Snow Leopard 10.6.5
Rosetta 1.0 is installed (necessary for DVD Info X?)
MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-898: HC10

Any pointers you could give would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I didn't check anything about your problem, but just recompiled my latest DVD Info X on an up-to-date MacOS (10.6.5).
You can download it and check if it works better: http://xvi.rpc1.org/dvdinfo.zip

Ok, this version works, but having a new issue - it does not list the drive at all. I thought may be my drive got locked forever but then thats not the case, because I can still change the dvd regions. Appreciate any update on this - is this happening only with me or with all/any others as well.

I am running latest mac book pro on 10.6.5 with all the latest updates installed as of dec 6th, 2010.

thanks much,
SMA.

@xvi

Thanks for the answer. But this version gives exactly the same result here (Imac late 2009, HL-DT-ST DVDRW GA11N, OSX 10.6.5) and the same yojimbo2000 noticed in the first post of this thread:

DVD Info X v1.1, by xvi.

WARNING --- DVD Info X will only list DVD drives that have some WRITE
capabilities, like combos, DVD-R, DVD-RW, etc...
DVD-ROM-only drives will NOT be listed.
WARNING --- You also must eject any inserted medium to list the drive.

@[_chef_]

Sorry, but I could't find the thread :( But yes, there seem to be a problem with mac os 10.6.5 and dvd info x

Unfortunately, DVD Info X won't work for me under OS X 10.6.5 either. Help!
Thanks

Oh, yes, and the version that I tried was the latest, 'recompiled' version that xvi posted on Dec. 4th.
Sigh. Ah, well.

Thanks for the help!

Well, I wrote a new alpha version of DVD Info X, Cocoa based this time. I probably won't upgrade it further, but give it a try if you want:
http://xvi.rpc1.org/DVD%20Info%20X%20alpha%201.zip
Hope this helps.

I just compiled a new version of DVD Info X 3. Get it at http://xvi.rpc1.org/
It will now reports region status for drives with a mount CD/DVD.
I removed the first version.

Many thanks! In particular, this version 3.0a3 does *work* ok under OS X 10.6.6... as of OS X 10.6.5 the previous v1.0 of "DVD Info" would just hang on RPC1 drives.

Not such luck, though, with the newer v2.0 of "Region X"... it simply does not detect my RPC1 drives. I tested it on bith OS X 10.4.11 and under OS X 10.6.6. Anyone else seeing this problem?

Does DVD Info X 3 report your drive as RPC-1 on the machine on which region X does not detect the RPC-1 drive?

When I run DVD Info X 3 it reports:

Yet Region X reports differently:

I've got the latest versions of both, I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.6 on a MacbookPro3,1

Anyone else seen this? Can it be fixed?

There are some issues with both DVD Info X 3 and Region X 2.0. I am working to solve them quickly.

DVD Info X 3 claims to require Snow Leopard although it is compiled as a universal binary —
and it runs on 10.5 & PPC after editing its Info.plist !

It's no universal binary anymore, i.e. it doesn't run on PPC.

Oooops again. I switched to XCode 4 and I don't seem to master the build process with it. Expect a 3.0b5 pretty soon...

Hi, I'm using 3.0b5 and it DVD Info X 3 stopped working after upgrading to Mountain Lion. Happened on an iMac and a Macbook. Is there any chance the development for this app is still happening? Much appreciated!
