Hellow i have some dvd rom code ds8a1p firmwire version CA24, i have prety weird about burning and reading some DVD disc.

Anybody know how to fix this ?

Another details about problems of reading is:

1. Same disc dvd i try to load like movies or program backups cannot be reading on my notebook. At other notebook it can.

2. I use windows xp and i compare with w 7 , stranges is at w7 it can read better than at xp, (does this OS issue or dvdrom issue? i m not sure)

3. When it fail to read , it sound like train mechanism , sometimes it makes the OS hang or cannot ejected while it fail and the light still on.

4. Sometimes same disc its fail to read and sometimes it success to read. Sound nasty is it.

5. Success burning and then tommorow it fail to read. ( same disc)

6. REading cd disc its fine but dvd what ever its brand ussually not success full to read (sometimes the fail read is random)

AFAIK, this drive is not really reliable.

What media and content have you used?

Just post a logfile here for more investigation on the issues.

PS. New firmware is no magical healer.

the media disc brand im not sure becuz i use several brand contain movies dvd format and some backup copy of program files aplication which unknown brand disc dvd R or R/W ( but the disc side its purple colored)

For reading cd media its good but for some type or DVD media its awfull

i use tool info it can read but not wanted to show the contain while im trying to explore at my windows

i read at manuals book said sometimes its depend the disc so the drive can read but not all ( is that true or false news??)
its prety confusing me.

Sometimes when the drive rom feel that too hot temp causing by disc and then the drive refuse to read, and the tricky is to copy back the files to Hardisc paste and use some tools to read it from hardisc example DVD games . Becuz of the behavior of the drive like that i could not play games directly from drive disc.

The main probs is the media copy back up is fine becuz i ve test it on other pc/notebook drive rom , they can read it.

But when i insert to my drive rom notebook , the drive seem like refuse to read it . , and when the drive act like that the mechanical spin and optic movement sound like a crappy machines

OK, for me that sounds all like media related.

Without precise info on the media used and a logfile I'm unable to resolve the issues.

hellow sir , this some cd disc that can read, i try to Screenshoot the dvd disc that troubles, problems is now i had 2 disc dvd that now stuck on the drive each time i put in my notebook and i cannot eject it without restarting the laptop . I had to restart it and before the OS load and just eject it .

yes the last one is dvd movies disc commercial ( but i dont think its original version i guess )

Either its commercial and legally pressed or not....

well is there any log file u wanted me to post? becuz i cannot post unread/undetect able disc dvd format or it detect but win xp wont show up while explore it , when it detech sometimes just show at properties the disc is full contain thats all .

To be honest, that all sounds like you have used non name media crap, and thats the root of all your problems
beside the reliability issues known with this drive...............

yea i know its non brand printed media crappy, but why other drive rom can read it? and my notebook can not read it? Yes maybe thats is cheap disc but why other drive rom can read cheap disc?

I dont think expensive disc is the solution and will always be compatible to burn and read on my notebook drive.

Are there is a rule for dvd drive rom hardware producer that will said " use expensive disc only" ?

Im planning too replaces the dvd drives and already contact the manufacture but they did not respond which one type and how and where the places to replaces it.

So far i know the drive is good for reading CD s but for DVDs format and some disc quality issue thats makes me confuse.

Another option from seller just said use higher NERO version or buy expensive disc.

I might think that just something on the drive lock up or missing code or something maybe.

It is easy to answer that.
Different drives / models use different electronics, means PUH, and all thats around it...
Drives in Laptops are slimtype drives, they mostly are unreliable and they are one thing for sure: slower than half-height drives (desktop drives).
So, if you want to deal with "kinda cheap" media, then never try them with a slimtype or super-slimtype drive.

What drive you want to replace?
To go the safe route, get an external one, and no slimtype...
The sentence about "higher Nero" is just a usual blabbering from someone who doesnt want to resolve such issues, no doubt.

wew i had too many external device from modem usb , camera usb , tablet usb , i m not really sure external drive rom to get and had good solution

and i dont know which one is better than ds8a1p and can deal with cheap disc. my brother have msi laptop and his drive can read most of cheap disc

And your notebook manufacturer is ASUS, so you would need a slimtype drive for what is ASUS firmware available.
Only so you can exchange that drive for another one and make it work.
