Hey all, I have a Toshiba L25 S119 laptop (and yes, I have googled for help with flashing this before ) with a TSSTCorp TS-L642C CDW/DVD Drive. It originally had TO10 firmware, however I attempted to flash the drive to remove the region counter (having used all my region changes). I used Backspace's HP10 firmware found here: http://backfire.rpc1.org/tsstcorp/index ... =TS-L462C/This did not appear to remove the region control, but the drive was still detectable. I then moved on to flashing the drive with Hijacker's SC04 firmware using the -nochek option in sfdnwin.exe And now the drive cannot be detected in windows, and cannot be booted from the bios. Is there any way to recover the drive? Anything desperate that no one wishes to try on a working drive? Best Regards, LinearActuator

It could also be that the updated firmware switched the drive from master to slave or vice versa. In that case he would need to find a laptop that expects this kind of drive or maybe try with an IDE slimline adapter and a desktop PC.
Since this thread is about a Toshiba laptop, that usually expect slave (or inverse cable select or whatever) drives, chances are not too bad that this drive could work and be flashed back to the original mode from almost any other laptop as most of them expect master (or cable select) firmwares

Thanks for all the responses! I will attempt to re-flash using the first reply downwards... Puma wrote: you bricked your drive, by misflashing with wrong firmwares. You need a copy of the original. If as expected it isn't available. you would need to try the TO10 via dos. Only chance. See the link http://backfire.rpc1.org/tsstcorp/index ... utilities/I downloaded v175TEG.exe from the link (as it mentions TS-L642A in its description) but simply opening it will not work. I read somewhere that I have to run it in "real" DOS - is this correct? Have I downloaded the correct item you were referring to? I should mention that my laptop now has no means to boot anything at system startup - no option to boot from USB, and the CD drive is not detected due to my misflash. I do have two partitions on my harddrive though - if that helps in any way. (This is my first time flashing a drive, as you can probably tell!) Thanks!! Rob

Have I downloaded the correct item you were referring to? has to been done via DOS, and not a command prompt in windows

Apparently it is impossible to enter "real" DOS in Windows XP Any ideas?

Hey guys - sorry it has been a while since my last post. I have finally got my hands on an external cd drive (only borrowed though), and have burned a bootable disc following Puma 's last post.
I booted the cd, loaded the second option (with CD-ROM support) and typed in IDEDIAG. My mis-flashed CD drive showed up as Secondary Slave (4).
I returned to DOS and typed in v165TEG.exe 4 TS-L462C_HD10.BIN following the <Flash> <Drive position> <firmware> format, but to no success.
Can anyone help me from here?
Cheers!!

No - I booted a CD from an external drive in order to try and reflash my internal drive. And as posted earlier, I cannot boot from USB

I am booting from an external CD drive connected to a usb port - I am not booting off a USB flash drive and my laptop does not support this option.

An external CD drive counts as a CD drive as my laptop is concerned. If I cannot boot from a USB stick with Linux on it, I cannot boot from USB. USB is not an option for me to boot from, a CD drive is - internal or external And this is kind of off topic, I wanted to know how to flash my mis-flashed CD drive (the Internal one) using v165TEG.exe run from Real DOS!

There was no readme, so I tried another flasher. I have successfully reflashed the drive back to normal, using sfdndos. Now, how do I patch the firmware to make it region free
