Hello

Congratulations for the site, and thanks for all the useful info and free software.

I just joined the forum, after a while looking around I could not figure out two basic questions:

I have the new iMac with Snow Leopard and a HL-DT-ST GA11N Drive with JA18 firmware, exactly the same tech specs as here: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=46090

I was able to patch my firmware trough ala42's MCSE for autoreset and successfully flashed onto my drive with devilsclaw's flasher. However I was wondering if it is possible to patch my firmware to make it RPC1.

Also I am not sure about this, are all the firmware files on the site original original or patched versions?

And finally, just for the record, when I tried to register to the forum, for some reason i got the 'idiotic moronic spammers alert' when tried to use a gmail address, I tried a couple of times but it just let me trough when I used my hotmail address.

Thanks a lot.

You read the rules - why don't you follow them?

gmail mail addies are not allowed here for several good reasons.

Finally, what's your problem with the autoreset firmware?
Many users would be very happy to have an AR fw for their drives!!

All right, I read the rules, missed that one out, no problem.

The reason I am asking this is it seems much easier for me to just make region changes with Region X than having to be prompted by Player software when I want to change between regions, and having to do a full power cycle when I need to reset the counter.

Also I am afraid that sometime soon software may be able to detect the firmware patch and thus need some additional software.

That's why I want to know if there is any chance of patching my firmware to be RPC1 myself, or maybe by making a request.

Also I was hoping if you can tell me if the firmware files on the site's database has original or patched versions.

Thanks.

Ok, so your post makes no sense. first you said you read the rules and then you say ok so I didn't read that one and yet you brush it off and continue with what your trying to get with out fallowing the rules. the other thing that makes no since is the aspect of software going to start recognizing patched firmware and then ask for a RPC1 patched firmware.

First off the likely hood of a RPC1 cdrom drive popping out in todays market is rare or with a premium so all they would have to do is say all drives are not RPC1 and ban all drives in that mode. sounds dumb well so does the idea that they are going to detect the RPC2 reset since what is stopping me from buying the exact same drive that sends back the same info to the computer with all its region changes available.... NOTHING. If you mean they by some magic all manufactures are going to collectively post signature files for there firmwares and then some how get a company... namely microsoft to force it on its users and is near to none from happening.

so again fallow the request rules or this topic will be deleted.

I apologize for posting nonsense.

I'll try to make this right; I was able to patch my firmware to auto-reset through Ala42's MCSE, but am interested in the RPC1 patch which seems simpler and better to me, so I thought there may be another app that could do it but found none, then I browsed the site's already existing firmware requests but cannot seem to find the one I need.

So I think I have to make a request.

What makes you think so ? For RPC1 you need to install additional software, for the RPC2 autoreset it works out of the box.
