thanks for your feedback. Regarding anydvd, the screen shows the error, hence the question, do you think it'd be better to set my drive to whatever region (it's currently at region status none, which anydvd lists as a possible reason for it not working properly) before dumping/flashing?
thanks again!

if your going to flash to RPC1, no need to set a region. Just follow ala's post for dumping and flashing. If anydvd show's that up after you have flashed to RPC1. Then its the drive make that is the issue.

This is sooooooo brilliant! Thank you soooo much! You saved me 100 euro for a new non-matashita drive. Do you have a donate button, a favorite non-religious charity, or a brand of beer you desperately need?
You deserve it all.
Thanks again and...
best, jz

Yes, there is a donation button right here: portal.php

Glad it worked for you.

Sony Vaio Z (VGN-Z350N) running Windows 7 Ultimate x32
Matshita UJ862AS

error :
// sptxSay.DeviceIoControl: x1 (1) Incorrect function.
// sptxSay x 0 0 29 E (ioctl status length senseLength)

- no ACHI
- safe mode didn't help
- tried WinPE (SuperWinPE), got bluescreen after logo animation

BUT, finally, Hiren's BootCD to the rescue ;)
i did both dump/patching and flashing in the Mini Windows XP
Don't forget to remove the CD when flashing, or else you would recieve another error

Thanks guys! :)

I would just like to say thank you for the effort you have put in to making the matshita uj857j useable for me. I travel a lot & frequently buy different region DVDs which hitherto have been unreadable on my Dell XPS 1330. I have tried several options over the last couple of years, pored over forums only to find Mac OS fixes, bought RPC1 USB slot drive(only to discover it was too thick to replace the Matshita), and even considered "borrowing" a friends Mac, to use the mac flash on my drive. I gave up & resorted to lugging an unnecessary extra USB RPC1 DVD drive with me on my travels. Finally discovered your effortless firmware flash prog applied with no problems. The USB drive can be left at home now.
Much appreciated.

Can we expect a patch soon to make the Matshita BD-DVDRW region free? (I have a Matshita DVDRWBD UJ110)

Thanks

You are still in the wrong thread, this one is about DVDRW patches, NOT BD drives...

You already made your request too.

you haven't read and followed what it says. you do not drag the rpc1.dat file into the folder. you can have it in the folder, but you drag it and drop it into the batch file - (MatshitaWinFlash.bat). Then follow what it states, drive letter.

Everything went smoothly for me, but then when I installed "DVD Region Killer", it didn't work. It said that it doesn't work with Win Vista. Is there any other software I could use instead of this?

Hi

I just set mi matshita uj-840d DVD writer into region free. It did work but now I cannot read CDs.

I mean, I can read and burn any DVD from any region (movies) but, after firmware flashing, the unit does not read any CD.

For example, I tried to read a burned CD of mine and instead of see my files it appers to show a ".cda" file (song) ... ???

When I flashed the firmware I made an error: I erased the original firmware .dat file.

What can I do?

Thanks.

Sorry, you are wrong.
How can it be when your drive "cannot read any CD" that it shows you *.cda files???

It is perfectly normal to show cda files when you insert a CDDA aka AudioCD!!!
