Just to confirm, I too have just successfully flashed the BDR-205 firmware from 1.04 to 1.08 using the official files found on this site, and I have an OEM drive that I purchased from Newegg. I can also confirm that you have to set your motherboard BIOS SATA settings to IDE, as AHCI would not allow me to flash the drive (though it does attempt to flash a few blocks, it is unable to finish the process).
