After i import it, all the information is there, but after i press the set button, it looses the "64" bit so the media type is just "UMEDISC-DL1" and when i go to burn on the media using IMGBurn, it says "Supported Write Speeds: 4x" but i want it to be 2.4x only, which is what i selected in MCSE.

Burning a bad disk with a non tuned write strategy has a low chance of success. Anyway, the 118/218 drives do not store the media revision in the media table, so loosing the revision 64 is normal.
Which media code did you overwrite to import UMEDISC-DL1 ?

Sadly, this media is a waste of time. :(

Maybe, but its the only media my release day 360 will play/boot first time, and only if burned at 2.4x speed

I doubt that originals will not play in your console...

I tried it twice, overwriting 2 different media codes. the ones i tried are :

CMC MAG D01
PHILIPS CD2

Both times the min writing speed was 4x

Here is an update.

It appears as though its the drive itself that can not write below 4x speed. I have tried 3 different types of media with MCSE and everytime it says it can only write at 4x even though they where all set to write at 2.4 x only.

I have also tried 2 types of 2.4x media, and both of them burn at a min of 4x speed.

Is there anything i can do to change the drive itself so it can write at 2.4x speed ?

Thanks

:?: I have a question:
Is it possible to write mediacodes for CD-Rs into LG Firmware (crossflashed GSA-E60L to GSA-H55L 1.06)
with MCSE or with another Firmware-tool?!
Because the minimum burning speed of the Ricoh-CDs I have is 16x and I want them to be burned with 8x or lower (for audio use).

My internal GSA-H42L has no problem with these Ricoh-CDs to burn them with 8x and lower.

MCSE does not support patching CD media tables. As long as the media code of your CDs is supported by the firmware, it makes no sense to use a write strategy of a different media code as this will not improve the write quality.
Also writing a CD that is optimized for writing at high speeds at a low speed, e.g. 16x or even lower does not improve the write quality. The write quality you get at 32x should be better.

Ahhh, this is good to know because in the past it was said that burning CDs for audio-data with lower speeds
was better then on higher speeds. This was often said in different forums. That's why I thought today it must be the
same strategy for burning Audio-CDs.
Thanks for your explanation!

this is a myth, people often post this, saying i need to burn at 1x or 2x because that gets me better quality on my 32x rated media, rubbish, as long as your media is good quality, then your going to get quality burns at 32x

Hello, dear ala42.

Would you consider adding support for GBW-B10N?

I've loaded my firmware in the latest MCSE in order to add some BD-R media codes, but the Ext and Rev areas are greyed out. I suppose it doesn't support my drive yet, am I right?

Thanks very much for your time.

Replacing or editing BD media codes is not supported because this probably will not give good results and quality tests are currently hard to perform. You will loose your data in the long term if the write quality is not good.

Greetings,

I'm new to the forum and I have a HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-T11N : A104 inside of my Dell Inspirion 1501. Currently i'm unable to read any DVD's due to the drive status region being locked. Everything except flashing the firmware. I don't specifically know how to do this. Again I apologize for me not being as savy. LOL!

I think MCSE would support this, because the drive is listed in the support list.

You just have to start the patched .exe file you saved in MCSE.

I assumed that was all I had to do. I did that and after rebooting DVD Info still told me there was a region lock.

post, little puzzling. As your output doesn't say the drive is region locked, Just a region not set. Have you a link to this A104 Firmware?

There will always be a region lock indicated, as its an RPC2 Autoreset patch. DVDInfo will only show no lock detected, if you have an RPC1 Firmware

Puma,

This is where I took the new firmware from

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=42502

The information is on page one about midway down the page.

great, add that to the database. On your issue, your drive is not locked, as previous stated its as per normal. set a region, this should be done when you insert a disc, and then off you go. When you say, you cannot play a DVD, what do you mean, any error messages? player software used?

Thanks for your help guys. What I'm currently doing is trying to view a rental CD on my laptop. Netflix/blockbuster. Currently it tells me that I'm unable to view protected DVD's on my laptop. I gave it a region code of 1 and tried to play it in Windows Media Player but it won't play it just comes back with that message.

would use a dedicated DVD player software, instead of windows one. Vlc, powerdvd
