I don't know what's the problem, but it doesn't work with SPTI. It runs fine on another identical computer, but not on mine.
I've tried right after reinstalling Windows 7 (both 32 and 64 bit), and the SPTI option was still greyed out.

However, I can run ImgBurn (which also uses SPTI) just fine, burn and erase with no problem. Any ideas?

Try running it in compatibility mode.

I tried with every mode (XP, Vista, etc). No one works. Even with admin rights.

Both 1.7 and 1.6.1. The most weird is that it works on an identical* pc.

* except for another HDD I added to this one.

Sorry, but I doubt "identical pcs" exist.
Yoiu would need not only the exact same components installed equally and setup with all the same options and BIOS, firmwares, softwares, drivers.

That is just impossible.

Maybe you could use some Rescue CD/DVD or virtualisation to make Discinfo run properly...

things that can conflict is AHCI, see if that is in your bios, and change its setting then try.

Could be that your computer refuses to start up after changing to AHCI........

I remember changing something about AHCI when I was using WinXP. It wouldn't install without an external driver, but I had no diskette drive, so I changed that on BIOS and it worked. But IIRC I changed back when I installed Vista, and now with 7. I'll give it a try soon.

BIOS was set: "RAID Autodetect / AHCI"
I changed to "RAID Autodetect / ATA" and Windows couldn't boot.

try putting the aspi dll in the folder along with discinfo, download from below, choose the one named wnaspi32.dll

I can run with ASPI. I just wonder why not with SPTI.

Perhaps changing the registry value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\AllocateCDroms from 1 to 0 or from 0 to 1 helps.

I don't remember which value allows SPTI access for non-administrator users. #-o

I set to 0, now it says it can't locate any drive. Set back to 1, the same. Maybe I need to restart.

Update: Dammit... now even after restarting I can't run it. Not even with admin rights.
