Hi there,

my friend would like to buy an external DVD-RW drive for her intel macbook that will allow her to play all regions and burn cd and dvd's - is there one that can be recommended that can be modified to play any region?

she has the below internal drive but she doesn't trust it because it keeps trapping her disks inside however if possible id like to look into a way to get this region free too?

MATSHITA CD-RW CW 8221 with one of my cds stuck in it of course arrghh
Firmware revision GAOJ
INTERCONNECT ATAP1
BURN SUPPORT YES - APPLE SHIPPING DRIVE
CACHE 2048 KB
CD WRITE –R –RW
WRITE STRAT CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD- RAW

thanks for reading

- George

look for samsung, liteon,LG or pioneer drives, any can be made RPC1, either but a deicated external drive, or you can buy any internal one and use an external enclosure.

as long as its USB, then it should work fine with a mac, easy to make region free also

So do you think an external drive needs to be USB to work with an Intel Macbook?

External drive choices are compatible with different kinds of interfaces, like eSATA, USB, and FireWire.

What kind of question is that?

USB is a wide spread standard, thats why Puma suggested an usb external drive.
Usually Macs also have Firewire ready, but external drives with Firewire are rare and expensive, same counts for eSATA.
