I have always avoided the region lock thingy on the mac by simply having an external firewire drive - as many suggest.
but my internal Matshita UJ-846 on my 20" intel imac seems REAL slow, to read and write.
Will flashing help? Is it EASY to do?
How risky is it?
and, is it better to simply tear and scrabble at the case til it opens and replace the thing...
waddya think?
any help is much appreciated

flashing not get you very far. unless you had a read speed patch, the burning is because its limited, and the media used, an external will always give you faster speeds than a laptop/mac drive
