Hi new to tis is apologies if I have put this request in the wrong place.
I am looking for an RPC1 firmware update to make my 24" iMac drive region free:
Vendor: MATSHITA
Model: DVD-R UJ-875
Firmware: DB09
RPC-2 (region locked)
State is SET
4 vendor resets left
3 region changes left
Region 1

tried the UJ-875S firmware but it would not flash it - said wrong model.

hey man! If the requested RPC1 patch isn't be available on this website, just follow the process to provide a "extract" of your drive, and I'm sure that ala42 will be happy to provide that for you !

Look here my previous post!

------------------------

For those who are looking for a RPC1 firmware (free zone) which is NOT already published, please read this topic who was be made by ben11 in 2007!

We first ask you to search to find if a RPC1 firmware was already been published.
Then please post here the Matshita dump, with the exact drive model, original firmware revision, additionally put your computer's model.

The tool : http://files.rpc1.org/index.php?act=view&id=5742

IPing: I offered the site that tool earlier last week: They're working on a new improved and easier to use version so you may want to remove that link.

Hi

I'd like to RPC1 firmware for:

UJ-85J (FM0S)

I'm running SL 10.6.2 the old application does not work in snow leopard soo I need the .dat for the new flasher

The new MatshitaFlasher V2.0 release can handle the old firmware packages released by ben11. Read the updated first post for instructions.

Hello board,

First and foremost I'd like to thank the people behind this project for their time. Living in a Region 2 country but owning a bunch of Region 1 DVDs it's really nice to be able to use them on my Mac.

Unfortunately I got a little confused with the instructions : my DVD drive is the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846 FM3J, but instead of flashing with the FM3J specific patch I used the one for firmware FQ3T.
I did this because for some reason I missed the part where it was clearly stated that the updater could take ben11's old patches ; and since it was also clearly stated in the instructions that "- In case of drive/firmware mismatch or a corrupted firmware file the drive will not be flashed", I thought I there were no risks trying it out.
Well, the good news is it seems to work : my drive's not dead (DVDInfo X and System profiler now list it as a FQ3T), it is RPC1 and reads region 1 DVDs. Haven't tried burning yet.
But still, I'd like to revert the firmware back to the right one.
I tried throwing ben11's files into the flasher but I get the following error :

/Users/***/Desktop/Downloads/MatshitaFlasher.app/Contents/Resources/call_simple_flash ; exit;

calling simple_flash with firmware file /Users/***/Desktop/Downloads/UJ-846 FM3J region free firmware/Update FM3J to region free.app/Contents/PlugIns/FM3J.staple/Contents/MacOS/FM3J

simple_flash V 2.00 compiled at Jan 31 2010 19:59:57
fatal: firmware file length 3040792 does not match header info 1600083061

with both the "FM3J to free" and "FM3J to standard" files.
I searched the forum for an original FM3J firmware dump - and found one but unfortunately it was posted back in 2007 and the link appears to be dead.

So here's my request : does anybody have an original FM3J firmware dump in .dat format that I could use ?
What other solutions do I have?

Thank you in advance !
Al

zip it up and send to ala42, upload it on filesharing, if the size is ok, add it to your post, can all members requesting patched firmwares, please read the first post very carefully, and if your firmware is not listed, DO NOT take it for granted that any old firmware can be flashed to your drive. This will only cause potential damage to your drive. Post what is required and asked for, a tip, backup your firmware first before you try anything. ala42 is maintaining this thread, but members who don't bother to read the initial post/ignore it, will have there post deleted.

The code that converts the old files is a bit paranoid and does not convert the data if the file size is not between 3 MB and 4 MB. Well, these firmwares are a bit smaller that 3 MB. I will lower the limit in the next release so these files can be used soon.

Try again with the updated flasher.

Wow, that was fast !!
I just tried, it worked beautifully.
I flashed the drive with ben11's MATSHITA UJ-846 FM3J file, so it's now both back to FM3J and of course RPC1.
Gave a shot at Region 1 & 2 DVDs, everything worked.
Vielen Dank für Alles ! (Hope that's correct, I haven't practiced my German in eons ;)

Wow, I follow the instructions and patched my MATSHITADVD-R UJ-875 DA09 within 2 minutes =D> =D> I should let my friends know this thread =D> =D>

Now I got this message

Vendor: MATSHITA
Model: DVD-R UJ-875
Firmware: DA09
RPC-1 (region free)

I still have one question, before I flash the drive when I put in a DVD, the DVD PLayer said I have 3 changes left, and now it say I have 5.

So I open the Region X 1.8, it show that I have 5 changes, however when I change the region on the left panel, the changes become 4. it is correct? I just want to make sure ho it works.

Like, I continue to change the region through Region X it should "5 changes" all the time, or it will restore the changes to 5 when it becomes 0?

Yes, that is correct behaviour for DVD Region X. Every time you reset the changes to 5, then change the region it will automatically change to four changes left. This is to avoid invalid combinations of settings in Mac OS X.

Just keep the changes set to 4, change the region to what you need and you'll be fine.

I'd like to request a stock firmware for my UJ-868 superdrive, version KA14.

System information:
MATSHITADVD-R, UJ-868, revision KB19
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X 10.6.2

Require:
Original stock firmware, revision KA14.

After my last superdrive firmware update, it suddenly stopped reading several CDs and DVDs and I'm hoping a downgrade fixes my problem. I tried searching on this forum but I can't find this firmware version anywhere. Hope someone still has this on disk somewhere. It would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi!
I had exactly the same issue, was about updating with the genuine Apple Firmware Update. I came to the Apple Shop, here in Geneva, and a supposed Genius told me that my MacBook Pro was not anymore under warrenty, then he told me that the part remplacement was about 250.- CHF (almost $250) This is just ridiculous!! I've finally get a brand new drive on ebay, and that it.
Flashing back on KA14 wasn't solved my issue. I've event test with all frmwares avalaible here for this drive...

Well, it indeed didn't help me one bit. But it never hurts to try I guess. Working on getting my drive replaced but since the drive is over one year old, it'll be hard to get it replaced under warranty. But we'll see what Apple has to say about it. I've seen tons of other people on the Apple forums already complaining about the superdrive update but Apple has yet to do something about it.

Copy simpleflash and the firmware you want to flash to the same directory, start terminal, cd to the directory and call it
./simpleflash 0 firmwarefilename
