Hi

I have used up my allocated number of changes to the DVD Region. I am now locked on Region 1 and wish to get my DVD player on my 2009 MacBook to be region free.

Here are the details

Vendor: HL-DT-ST
Model: DVDRW GS22N
Firmware: CP06
RPC-2 (region locked)
State is PERMANENT
4 vendor resets left
0 region change left
Region 1

Can anyone help? I have tried using VLC to play other region DVDs but this does not work.

Thanks!

Admittedly that bit was not directly relevant ( and misspelt by me to boot ), but I was pointing out there were a bunch of firmware updates released today which did include one for the related drive and many others that people have been waiting for, thus giving hope that someone may rpc1/autoreset that drive, and many others, just alas not the drive I am most interested in myself.

Yep, they're inside this package http://support.apple.com/downloads/Supe ... Update_3_0

though need to dig though a few layers to get at the installers themselves.

The RPC2AutoReset patch works with the GS2x firmwares, the GA11 is supported in the next release.

thanks, but... I meant you told us you have the firmwares that were inside SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0
it seems GS21N SA18 revision was inside the Update, but for now nobody has extracted and posted it...
without firmware, no chance to patch it. :)

Have you tried with MCSE by ala42?

I need to install Windows with BootCamp to do this, right?
I would do this tomorrow, when I'm at home and have my windows installation disc. I just wanted to ask if it would work before I install windows.

You can patch the firmware with MCSE on any Windows PC, but this will not help you much as the LG flasher runs under Windows only.

1. Download the CP08 firmware from the rpc1.org database (http://files.rpc1.org/index.php?act=category&id=1822)
2. Extract the file from the archive and load the *.exe file in ala42's MCSE (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=41228), patch it by clicking the appropriate box, and then save the patched firmware.
3. Flash the patched firmware to your drive, and once completed reboot / shut down your computer.

Done.

Hi there,

Thanks for your help. I realize you are being quite clear, but I am a bit confused. First, I have a Macintosh, should this work for an Apple?

Did you forget that you have posted in the Mac section??
BTW, hijacking another thread is no good start.
You should have posted in a new thread and into the request section, as our FAQ explains.

MCSE is a windows program, if you have no chance to run it then you are out of luck.

Not recommended, because cvs already gave you the guide to flash your drive.

You should read the threads about using MCSE (within windows envoronment or via emulation), otherwise it will not work.
