I'm sorry if it has already been asked, but this means that using dvrflash I can crossflash a Pioneer DVR-116D to a Pioneer DVR-116L using these files?

Thanks in advance

I am just going to buy a pioneer dvr 116d drive(i already ordered it) and i just found out that has no DVR ram writing, i don't want to buy any nec drives because of their bad quality(2 drives not reading their own created dvd-r disks already). So is there any problems after crossflashing to dvr 116 or 116L?
a)Does the drive work fine or has problems?(after the crossflashing)
b)Does the firmware that starts with A... shows it is an ATA firmware and beginning with S... is SATA? I'm asking that in order not to confuse the firmwares and destroy my new drive.

Hi,

Yes, the drive works fine after crossflashing, even better if you patch your firmware using media code speed edit (increasing read speed, rpc1, ... )

Concerning the firmwares, A16J is for ide drive, and A16JS is for sata, if I'm not mistaken (crossflashed my drive some time ago...) ;)

Ok, thank you my friend, is there any guide how to patch my firmware for better speeds?

You will need DVRflash too, the readme file explains all what you need :)

To turn the firmware back, idem as crossflashing, but with original firmware (have a look on the dvrflash readme file)

when you crossflash you take the responsibility, that your using unofficial methods, and any issues go wrong, its your problem, we do not promote this as a way to go back to official firmware, to claim on a guarantee

I don't mean that the drive's fault is due to the firmware, it can just stop reading some disks without reason, that i mean because 2 nec drives did that to me and had no firmware modification on it.
Anyway is there anyway to turn the drive in the previous firmware in case i want to go back?If i use the same kernel file and the 116d firmware would it work?If not where can i find kernel file to go back?
I just want to try it and then decide to keep or not the new firmware
Thanks in advance

Hypothetically, you can reflash the drive to a kinda prior official state, but in case the drive has some malfunction that affects the flashing method, this would be impossible.
These times dvd drives are so darn cheap...

You are absolutely right they are very cheap but also very bad quality, i have purchased 2 nec drives the last last year and both are malfunctioning, hope the pioneer lasts...My pioneer reader dvd106(front loader) still reads better than the nec drives after 6-7 years!!!

if you crossflash your drive, there is no way back to the 116D, as at present we do not have the kernel file available

Firmware and Kernel files are now available for the above 117/217 models, see first post or RPC1 Database

Ok, thanks :)
I've searched about differences between 216 and 217 (or 116/117), but I don't find any concrete differences (in fact the differences between 215 and 216 are not very important too), what's new in the 217 ? Hardware improvement ? Or cheaper production ?

from what i know it uses the same NEC chipset as the 116, improvement is to 22x burning, i haven't tried any such flash, but all previous models failed on any crossflash like this

Ok, I haven't seen 20/22X difference :)
Then, with the new Nec chipset of AD-7240 series, the next 118/218 series will burn at 24x 8 8O

Sorry if this question has been asked elsewhere, but I am currently looking to replace my dead DVR-111D which i crossflashed to 111L (replacing with a SATA drive). Looking around i see there are very limited number of DVR-216D and that most places are listing the DVR-217F, i was wanting to confirm, if like previous drives, it is possible to crossflash the 217F to 217L and if like my previous drive, this will enable writing of RAM and labelflash?

Thanks in advance.

Mark.

it will be, at present due to the 217F returning a different id, than what is expected, DVRFlash will not crossflash, but this is being worked on, but it will give you what you require, obviously the the F model, already gives labelflash, but not the DVDRAM burning
