Hi,
I just came across a little curiosity that keeps bugging me.. I recently bought a US Region 1 dvd box to watch it on my MacBook (early 2009).
On the first run DVD-Player told me to change my region code which (for whatever reason) was set to 6. I didn't do it so the DVD wont play. The other day I tried the same DVD on my iMac which has a Region 2 lock and it played just fine! After this I checked with DVDInfoX to see if my drives region had changed. But for some reason it's still Region 2 with my 'remaining changes' count being the same as before.
With this success in mind I switched my MacBook to Region 2 to at least be able to watch european DVDs. Guess what happened? My now Region 2 locked MacBook plays the same Region 1 DVDs it won't play before without any problems!!
Can anyone tell me what's going on here? I can switch between Region 1 and Region 2 DVDs without changing my drives code lock and without loosing any remaining changes..
I mean.. this is kinda cool.. bun WTF is going on??
Sorry for this long prolly-not-well-written post.
P.S.
Playback works on FrontRow, VLC and Mplayer. My Drives are:
MacBook: Matshita UJ-868 KA14 iMac: Pioneer DVR-K06A
Cheers, Shirk

there is no lock down of your drive, its acting normal, you say you had 4 changes, you changed to region 2, now you have 3, once you do it three more times, the drive will be then region locked, and no more changes can happen, be the same for the pioneer, unless it has RPC1 firmware on it, what does the info about the pioneer say?

Sorry I think you got me wrong here! With "locked" I mean "RPC2 locked" not "locked after using all my changes". I know I can switch my region setting three more times but I don't have to. Both Region 1 and Region 2 DVDs play just fine now. That's what keeps puzzling me..

As this seems to be at least of some interest, is there any other data I can provide?
I checked again and I'm still able to play the DVDs in FrontRow without any complains.
