I just bought a Panasonic / matsushita uj 120 blu ray combo drive and have read sony uses these drives as well now the one i bought is an hp model i cant find any support for this with hp can i cross flash it with a sony firmware if so which one would be best?

will this work ?

how do you know it's hp? did you buy it in a system from them

i got it right here and its braned with the hp logo i am in canada contacted hp canada and they couldnt find any record of the drive

when i phoned them i got put on hold a few times they basically told me their is no support no documentation and no rivers or firmware for the device and that they dont have it on record

Who told you that drive would be crossflashable either?
It is not related to any other BD burner, AFAIK. So no way, even more that there isno firmware or flasher available...

Since you bought it in a HP system, its HP OEM, and they, and only they have to give support.

I was just assuming becuase the sticker may say hp that it may be the same as the sony oem version an that firmware would be the same :(

Many companies are using the uj-120 they are ALL panasonic / Matsushita drives regardless of what is on the sticker. Sony made their flasher work only with sony systems so you cannot use it to crossflash. The flasher would need to be hacked to use their firmware with another UJ-120, it would work as every drive i have seen is electrically identical.
