I apologize

I hv read the following rules pertaining to my issue.

I hv earlier

1) browsed your forum
2) accessed a link for downloading the firmware as well as flashing tools

Problem: The firmware downloaded for my DVD writer has a .exe file and no Auto reset and no Bin file.

I tried to use the command for extracting the current Firmware .exe to .bin format. But no sucess.

Actually I could not locate any accurate info regarding LG drives.

Even the website which had posted about Flashing tools had mentioned about all drives except LG.

So, the only option left for me is to try all the flashing tools at my own risk, which I am ready to take. But all of these are wanting me to provide firmware in Bin format.

@@@@@@@@@@

Earlier I tried to use search engine in your forum to get the info about LG drive since there is no accurate info that is the reason why I have posted this request.------ I had no other option.

I am trying to find some info about how to convert exe to bin even from other forums but that too it is of Liteon drives.

@@@@@@@@@@@

I hv tried following the process of flashing even from safe mode but of no use.

The conclusion that I arrived was that either Mtkflash does not supports LG drives or I have to any how find Bin format of LG firmware.
I apologize.

Please use Discinfo and post the summary output here.

What is the problem with the .exe file you have?
Why do you think you would need an bin file??

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

I have got

GSA4163A105.exe

as the firmware update file

@@@@@@@@@@

I am using

Mtkflash.exe

v1.09 for flashing my LG DVD RW

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

My LG DVD RW is connected to Secondary Master.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

I am using the following command to backup my firmware

MTKFLASH 3 R /B LG.BIN

it hanges with no result.

@@@@@@@@@@@@

Now if I had GSA4163A105.bin file instead of GSA4163A105.exe file then I could have used any of the flashing tools mentioned on your forum.

@@@@@@@@@

Problem is that neither can I backup my firmware to create a bin file of it nor can I use exe file of the firmware update to flash my LG DVD RW because the flashing tools only support Bin file.

@@@@@@@@@@@

So I came to a conclusion that either try to find .bin file of my LG DVD RW Firmware or find exact Flashing software that can flash LG drives.

There are lot of info available on Web but most of them are for Samsung, Sony, Liteon etc.. except LG.

If it is possible pls help me out. In meanwhile I am trying other alternatives like converting exe to bin using other tools, if they are sucessful I promise to post it on your forum so that it can help even those people who own LG drives.

rgrds.

MTKFlash is not for your drive, and will not work, you cannot backup LG firmware from the drive, you need to use one from TDB's

Also the firmware on your drive is already NEWER than the 105 you wanna update with.

Firmware flashers

NEC ND-1100A (ND-1000A,ND-1300A)
Version 1.03 for DOS. We strongly recommend that you use DOS as a flashing environment. While it might be more difficult, it is much cleaner and safer.

NEC ND-5100A (ND-5500A)
Version 1.03 for DOS.

NEC ND-2500A (ND-2100A,ND-2300A,ND-2510A)
Version 1.01 for DOS.

NEC ND-6100A (ND-6500A,ND-6450A)
Version 1.00 for DOS.

NEC ND-3500A (ND-3100A,ND-3450A)
Version 1.00 for DOS.

NEC ND-3520A
Version 0.01 Beta for DOS.

BENQ/PHILIPS CVT
Version 1.01 for DOS.

Tried all of them------------ no result

I hv heard of LG flash utility

something called Je4.exe----------Is it true?

Does the file size of the firmware bin file shows as zero bytes after when it is backed up?

these are no good, what are doing? on the dangerous bros site there is A106 RPC1, download it and run it, that makes the drive, region free, there is no LG flash utility for the 4163 other than the official one.

Why do you insist on this bin theory?

My LG HL-DT-ST GSA-4163B has crashed and now it is not accepting A106 Windows (RPC1 and Auto-Reset) firmware------but I really never cared of this LG HL-DT-ST GSA-4163B as I wanted to discard it. So I wanted to use it like a dummy for practicing how to flash dvd drives.

My main intention was to flash LG HL-DT-ST GSA-4167B drive.
So as per the help give my you, I hd downloaded DL13 Windows (RPC1 and Auto-Reset) firmware.

Thnx to you. I was sucessful in flashing LG HL-DT-ST GSA-4167B drive. Now it is has bcom region free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Procedure for flashing any LG drives.
a) Dwnd the firmware from http://tdb.rpc1.org/. Note the firmware should contain Auto-Reset as well as RPC1 executable files
b) run Auto-Reset executable file. After finishing it will reboot PC.
c) run RPC1 executable files. After finishing it will reboot PC.
d) Chk 4rm DiscInfo and you find that your drive has become region free.

Thanks a lot to [_chef_] and Puma

However, I am posting the summary of my second LG dvd Rw which as being flashed sucessfully. Can you pls confirm What is "VENDOR SPECIFIC : peed: Font.[*profanity*]EASTEUROP"

Is this or will this give any error while using any region free drives or will it spoil my DVD RW drive?

Is it normal or some abnormal activity.

hi,

I was even able to recover my LG DVD RW 4163B drive also,

I again flashed it using older firmware and it was done.

Caution:- If any drive is being flashed to become region free and again a new vesion of firmware is being installed then the region free is lost unless the new version contains both Auto-Reset and RPC1.

In my case the LG DVD RW 4163B detected only A01 and stops functioning with A06. I hope this might be useful for those who want to flash LG dvd drives.

rgrds,
rocky

you flashed an oem firmware to the drive, which are usually vendor specific, for a specific manufacturer drive, like this LG is, don't worry about, the firmware works fine
