I've tried a dozen approaches to flash or crossflash a DVR-216D without any luck.

dvrflash finds the drive:
Quote:
Device : D:
Vendor : PIONEER
Model : DVD-RW DVR-216D
Revision : 1.07

Status : RPC-2 (region locked)
Region : none
Changes : 5 region changes remaining
4 vendor resets remaining
state is 'Region not set'

But I cannot flash it no matter what I try; for example:
Quote:
DVRFlash.exe -f d: S0015001.109
'S0015001.109': Invalid Pioneer firmware

Likewise, Pioneer's own flash tool reports: "Available target is not found"

I've tried in Vista (in ACHI mode) & XP (in IDE mode). I've tried booting Windows in safe mode, and confirmed nothing like Daemontools was installed. I've tried on three different SATA controllers (Via Vt6421, Marvell 61xx, & onboard Intel ICH10). I've also tried both stock firmware images and crossflashing to DVR-S16J.

I also have a DVR-111L that I've unplugged. The DVR-111L reports itself as being in "normal mode". Why isn't the DVR-216D reporting the same?

Any suggestions? Should I try a DOS version of dvrflash next?

For crossflashing you always need the normal and a kernel firmware!

Checked the FAQ?

I'm familiar with the crossflashing process, but again, same error:

Quote:
DVRFlash.exe -ff d: S0415430.104 S0415431.106
'S0415431.106': Invalid Pioneer firmware

The example I showed in my first post was a normal 1.07 -> 1.09 flash... as I understand it, no kernel firmware needed.

Could it be an issue that DVRFlash is not reporting "Drive is in normal mode." for my DVR-216D drive?

run DVRFlash -v and post what you get here, to crossflash you need a kernel file, with is in the zip of Firmware/DVRS16J_106.zip , then with the 1.09 firmware you can crossflash

The answer was staring me in the face all along. I bought a DVR-216BK, thought I had a DVR-216BK drive, and it turned out to be DVR-216DBK. That'd made all the difference on the firmware I was trying to load.

Your S0415431.106 file is corrupted. Try again with a fresh file.
