Hmmm... Interesting... It seems like, I've upgraded my firmware before, thus I have the 1.24 kind of. (THX to DVRflash) But I just do not understand, how could it be, that I can not write these discs... Have downloaded the 1.15 firmware form here... What to do now?

@ andrismeister,

Your DVD+R DL Media Burning problems most likely are not a Pioneer DVR-112D Firmware problem but probably caused by the use of RICOHJPN D01-67 Media.

It has been passed numerous times through out numerous Web Forums (including this Forum) concerning DVD+R DL Media that to consistently obtain quality error free results to use Verbatim DL MKM001/MKM003 Mitsubishi Kagaku Media. ALL other DVD+R DL Media (including your RICOHJPN D01-67) is considered suspect and should be avoided (not used).

Strongly suggest obtaining known proven high quality Verbatim DL MKM001/MKM003 Mitsubishi Kagaku Media that has an excellent track history of consistently producing quality error free results.

Regards,
Coaster

Load the firmware with MCSE and the bitset checkbox will tell you :)

The DVR-115/A15 series has a new firmware revision, 1.22. Anyone care to take a shot at these?

Trying it for one. The OP only has 1.18, so taking a 115D to the latest A15J would require crossflashing to 1.18 to just use that one up there. Does it need a different kernel file, or is the one included with the A15J 1.18 in the OP safe for use with it? I noticed someone said earlier that the kernel hasn't really been updated in some time. It would be nice to go straight from 115D to A15J 1.22.

the kernel version does not matter, you can use the one from the original post along with the new firmware 1.22 to crossflash the drive

I successfully flashed my Pioneer 216D with Pioneer DVR-S16J Firmware and Kernel posted on first page and now I have a Pioneer 216L. Two questions:
1. What's the difference between 216L and S16J? And why I have 216L instead of S16J after crossflashing?
2. Where can I find the official 216L firmware from Pioneer site to update my burner to 1.09 firmware version? On Pioneer japanese site:
http://wwwbsc.pioneer.co.jp/product-e/i ... 01r_e.html
there are firmware updates for:
a. DVR-216CHG, DVR-216CHE
b. DVR-216SV, DVR-216BK, DVR-216
c. DVR-216D (SV BK)
d. DVR-216BXL, DVR-S16FXB
I tried b. and d. options without success because the message is : "Available target not found"
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance :D

There is no other firmware class I know of than S16J that identifies as 216L. The 'L' means Labelflash.

that is the correct firmware which will gain you bitsetting, DVDRAM burning and labelFlash, after crossflashing update with the 1.09 firmware listed in the pioneer release section, your 216D is the model number, and BK, will be for black bezel

Thanks for the quick reply. Will the flash also make the dvr region free? The 1.09 firmware from the pioneer release section is an exe file. Is the a file for linux as well.

???
output from flashing:

Commandline:
./DVRFlash -vf /dev/sg2 S0415430.104 S0415431.106

Reading firmware 'S0415430.104'...
firmware is of Kernel type (PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-216L 1.04 ), size 020000
Reading firmware 'S0415431.106'...
firmware is of Normal type (PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-216L 1.06 ), size 1E0000

Drive Information:
Description : PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-216D
Firmware Rev : 1.08
Firmware Date : 08/09/01
Manufacturer : PIONEER
Drive is in normal mode.

Additional Drive Information:
Serial Number : HIDP326390WL

DVR generation : 0815
Kernel type : GENERAL
Normal type : GENERAL
Kernel version : 0001

Status : RPC-2 (region locked)

you need to run the firmware through MCSE to gain rpc1, also the download from pioneer, you need to extract it, using winrar, or other utility, then you will have two files, you can run the firmware through MCSE and patch it, save it, and then use DVRFlash to update.

Your flash command is wrong, use -ff instead of -vf, remember to put the firmware through MCSE for rpc1, or if your updating, then just patch the 1.09

yes you can, and also readspeed patch if you desire, will speed up reading of DVD+/-R/RW/DL

Will the readspeed patch damage the drive in time of use or is it safe as well?

One last question and I wil never bother you again :P . I could'nt edit the 1.09 file in MCSE does that mean that I don't have lightscribe and all the other cool stuff?

no the readspeed will be fine with the drive, the drive will have labelflash after the crossflash, the 1.09 works fine with MCSE, did you extract using winrar like i said, also make sure you have the latest MCSE

I did have an old version of MCSE

but the flash gives me the following:
Code:
Could not send the Flash command (Sense: 04 4C 01)

Edit: Fixed it, the computer needed restart. Now I have the 1.09 patched and everything. Thank you for taking the time to help a newbie in the firmware buisness.
