I patched the file, then flashed the patched firmware.

When I tried the different region discs, it asked me whether I wanted to the change the region from 4 to 1 or 4 to 1.

Region settings remaining now are about 3 times.

What am I doing wrong?

it's an old saying here at RPC1, but here goes, lol

Patching the drive is only half the job, with an RPC1 Drive, you need software to bypass player restrictions, download something like dvd region killer, and then try

Read speed patch allows 16x reading of 8x +R/-R media.
Sorry, forgot to let test the next patch...

I just discovered MCSE. :D
The current changelog shows support for LG GGW-H20L YL02-YL03.
Version 1.1.0.18 loads YL04 without any complains. Is it ok to use with YL04?

Yes, 1.1.0.18 successfully loaded GGWH20L_YL04.exe and saved GGWH20L_YL04_speedpatched.exe.
I just flashed my GGW-H20L with patched YL04, and it's working fine so far. Thanks!

--- EDIT ---

Is it possible to make the RPC2 auto-reset patch default to a specific region rather than region "none"?

Does the RPC2 auto-reset patch rewrite the Flash/EEPROM counter byte after every reboot, or does it use a RAM counter?
Frequently rewriting a Flash/EEPROM could gradually wear out the chip unless it's a high endurance device.
Page 7 has relevant info: http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org/Patching_DVD_Firmware.pdf

it will take what the status is when you flashed it, did you not have a region set, when flashing? if you want this, reflash to the official and set a region, then flash the autoreset

@ gammaburst,

Is there something that I am missing here?

The reason for a Region Free (RPC-1) Firmware is for the Drive to circumvent the Region Code prohibitions and become Region Free (no Region Code) and thus allow any and all Region DVDs to operate in the device. Why would you desire the DVD device to default to a specific Region? This defeats the purpose of a Region Free (RPC-1) Firmware in the first place.

Regards,
Coaster

just to clear up, he has an autoreset RPC2 firmware, and for his reasons, wants it reset to a region instead of none, who know's why, but hopefully my post will give him that

Thank you Puma, your technique works fine. My drive now defaults to Region 1. Previously, I must have flashed original YL04 firmware and then the patched YL04 firmware without first selecting a region. This is my first experience with RPC2 auto-reset.

Hi Coaster, Most of my movies are Region 1, so it's nice to never see the region select dialog except for those occasional days when I play another region. I realize that it gives me one fewer region change before rebooting, but that's fine for me.

Hi Ala42
Is it possible to add support for ASUS DRW-2014S1T? I note that MCSE supports DRW-2014 generically but not 2014S1T. I have a thread in the request firmware forum relating this.

Hoping you can help. Many thanks.

The ASUS 2014S1T is already supported, the RPC1 patch is not available yet.

Thanks Ala42. That explains the greyed out RPC1 button. I will check back from time to time.

I know the last release supports GH22NP20 (RPC1 patch), however it will speed up the DVD-Video (on DVD-+R medias) ripping speed ?

Thanks,
Gradius

Hi Ala42
New release right on New Year!
Great to see releases of this great piece of software are still rolling out.
Any chance of RPC1 support for ASUS DRW 2014-S1T being in included in a future release?
Happy New Year.
