I am Macintosh based and use DVR Flash. I have just purchased a new burner and would like to get the kernel files to allow me to update this drive to the latest available RPC1 level. Does anyone have the kernel files and could they make them available to me?

I know MCSE exists, but windoze doesn't on my machine. I just need the kernel files. Could someone kindly send them to me? The attached email address should work.

Kernel files are not needed to get RPC1. Only if you want to get the DVD-RAM write or Labelflash feature you need a kernel file to crossflash.

Having Labelflash is not a big deal, but crossing to the DVD-RAM is useful. I think this involves cross-flashing to a 116?

@ LeighRK,

It would be extremely helpful to explain exactly what you are attempting to do with your Pioneer DVR-116D.

Are your desiring to modify Pioneer DVR-116D Firmware for Region Free or are you desiring to CrossFlash your Pioneer DVR-116D to allow DVD-RAM Read/Write and LabelFash?

You need to be specific in exactly what you are attempting with your DVR-116D because modify Pioneer DVR-116D Firmware for Region Free and crossflash your Pioneer DVR-116D to allow DVD-RAM Read/Write and LabelFash are two entirely different procedures.

Regards,
Coaster

My principal aim is to get RPC1. DVD-RAM is of secondary importance. I don't really have any interest in labelflash. To use DVR Flash I believe I need to have the appropriate kernel file (I have previously successfully flashed a 111 and also a 112, as well as some older drives using this method). As I said earlier, I don't have access to windoze, and can only use the DVR Flash program.
If there is another method that works on a Mac, then I am happy to try it out.

My thanks to the responders! :D

What is the DVRFlash output?
Try with the -v/verbose feature.

I understand what you are saying Chef, but running DVRFlash without a kernel file is not really of any use (as I understand it). I don't get any output.

If it helps, I have a DVR-115D crossflashed to 115. If I cd to the DVRFlash folder and use ./DVRFlash -v PIONEER
and answer the prompt with y, I get this:

Drive Information:
Description : PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-115
Firmware Rev : 1.22
Firmware Date : 08/07/25
Manufacturer : PIONEER
Drive is in normal mode.

Additional Drive Information:
Serial Number : xxxxxxxxx (deleted)
Interface type : ATA
DVR generation : 0014
Kernel type : GENERAL
Normal type : GENERAL
Kernel version : 0001

Status : RPC-2 (region locked)
Region : 1
Changes : 4 region changes remaining
4 vendor resets remaining
state is 'Region set'

Aaah - stupid me. I see what you mean now. I will run that and see what the outcome is. Although when I RPC'd my older 115 - I just ran the Flash program with the kernel in the same folder and voila - RPC1.

to get rpc1, you need to patch the firmware using MCSE, which can be done via something like bootcamp etc, then use DVRFlash, the crossflash to gain DVDRAM burning, can be done by using the kernel and firmware for the A16, from the thread below

Assuming that you have not yet patched your drive, you may want to check this post: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=44874.
