Two things...

Could someone explain to me what an rpc1 is.

Is there an IRC channel for this topic?

Thanks...

Hello,

I have a thinkpad T60 laptop computer with a Matshita UJ-842 DVD Drive. I have been looking through this thread and found that that there are some mac-firmwares for matshita drives here, but not for the UJ-842. Would it be possible to make an UJ-842 firmware that enables bitsetting on this drive, that works on windows? If needed, I could provide a firmware dump.

I am using a Matshita UJ-840D, which i pulled from an HP Laptop and have gone down all the insane avenues (including HP) to try to obtain AT LEAST an updated firmware, ideally an RPCI, but to no avail of course :x Although this is obviously non-mac, could you please have a go at the firmware, if i dump and forward it on to you? Many thanks for any considerations in advance!

Ditto on the request for RPC1 firmware for Matshita DVD-R UJ-875 version DB09 as above.

Do you guys have one already, or do you need a dump?

Thanks!!!

If you search for "KCV9" then you will get some hits and they hold all necessary info!

sorry :?
I've checked it yesterday and posted today #-o
haven't noticed yesterday's post about this revision

edit: for those that are searching the firmware for KCV9's everything was explained here:

This is just a quick message to confirm the correct functioning of the KCVB region free firmware and a brief of the processes used.

Machine: Macbook Pro 2.33ghz
Mac OS: 10.4.10

Step 1 -> Downloaded official Apple Firmware Update 2.1 (Found on this thread) http://rapidshare.com/files/49498342/Su ... g.zip.html

Step 2 -> Ran Official Apple firmware to update drive from KCV9 -> KCVB (if your drive is listed in system profiler under the ATA panel as KCVB you can skip this step!)

Step 3 -> Updated Firmware using firmware located in this thread http://rapidshare.com/files/49185713/UJ ... B.zip.html

Step 4 -> Downloaded Region X 1.12 from this forum (http://rapidshare.com/files/44054443/Re ... build_.zip )

Set and changed drive region no problem using Region X (Tested burning - successful @ 5x with best settings using toast 8)- will try a dvd boot if I don't post back you can assume it worked ;-)

By the way (for any novices) there is an excellent utility by the legendary firmware rpc1 guru "xvi" called DVD Info X which is helpful in establishing whether your firmware update did indeed work and will list your current drive settings - xvi has retired now but the utility is mirrored here. It still seems to work under Intel! i have stuck it here as it seems to be tricky to find these days

http://rapidshare.com/files/49643080/DVD_Info_X.app.zip

Many MANY thanks to those who spent the hours days and weeks figuring out the firmware. Total Respect and Admiration!!

thanks again for all the team
and sorry for flooding

Hi to all of you.

Later night I've found the mentioned above post. And in any way, you may have firmware uploaded just for any case you may need it.

Big thanks to ben11, wherever if he going be back in rpc1 or not and to all of you for contributing test results and how-to. I were looking for this firmware one year ago, at that time there was no faith to have it happened. I was really surprised yesterday night when I found solution.

Thank you again.
Regards!

Did anyone get the code for the dump program running on linux? The problem seems to be the scsi library, but there should be some way to read that out in linux, too. Anyone?

Anyone has heard about the following device:
MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ862AS
It is built into my Sony laptop and is region locked. I searched a lot for that device but it seems to very unique.

Thanks for any comments and suggestions on RPC-1 firmwares for that beast

yes heard of the 862AS, not seen any firmware, unless there is any through the vaio updates, unfortunately nobody is active working on these firmwares

I can do some work, but am using linux. Reading out the firmware image should be possible on linux, too. And then, if someone knows what has to be changed in the firmware we can try that out, too.

Bummer. Is there an archive of pre-fix/post-fix firmwares so that one can compare the bytes changed? Maybe there is an easy pattern to be found in the firmware. Bummer that ben11 did not say *what* has to be changed, that would be much more useful than just changing it. How I hate information hiding.
